Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I love cemeteries. As a genealogist they are so rich in history. Such a somber and beautiful place to reflect.

I enjoyed this part of my bus tour, learning about the different markers and who has been buried here.

We were in Beaufort for a night on Memorial Day weekend. We didn't know about this cemetery until we drove by and saw the flags. Decided to drive through with our kids as a history lesson, and were able to read about the different wars the people had been in. Great stop in Beaufort - definitely would recommend checking it out.

Beaufort is a beautiful town with grand, historical architecture. The Beaufort National Cemetery is a must see. Beautifully kept grounds, flowers and resting places. We spent an hour just driving through and paying our respects to the brave men and women that served in our great military.
The historic district offers many places to visit, great restaurants and lovely shops. The surrounding islands offer scenic drives, history and fresh seafood. We only stayed one night however, wish that we had scheduled a few days. We definitely need to come back!

There are maps at back end of cemetery with locations of the more significant graves, including one of German POW who died during captivity and "The Great Santini," Colonel Donald Conroy. He is best known for being the inspiration for the character Lieutenant Colonel "Bull" Meecham in the novel "The Great Santini," which was written by his son Pat Conroy.
Also buried here are two Medal of Honor winners and the first USAF airmen to die in Vietnam. He is buried in a single grave with an Army Specialist who died with him. Also found here are the bodies recovered of the all Black 55th MA infantry who fought alongside the 54th MA that is portrayed in the movie "Glory."
There are frequent funerals here apparently every day.
Near the main entrance to the cemetery is a memorial to the Airborne Troops of the US Army. I met man whose late wife designed the memorial. She is buried near the memorial. She designed several memorials before her untimely death, all of them pro bono.

I cannot believe the history this place holds. They just reset all the headstones due to tree roots and even in the off season, it is beautifully maintained; it's amazing how peaceful it is here whether walking around or cruising in a golf cart on a tour. There is a visitor center where you can pick up a tour book and take a self guided tour. Definitely recommend a visit.

Breathtaking - the smell of pine is absolutely lovely and the beautiful contrast of the rows of white headstones with the green and red bows was visually restorative. Reflecting on the service given by these men and women was inspiring to reflect on our freedoms!
My husband's uncle and aunt chose to be buried here. A bit of a hunt to find their shared headstone.
Didn't realize that most of the states host National Cemetery's for our service members.

Beautiful stones that honor heroes. There are some very old headstones that describe the people in interesting ways. The cemetery is nicely kept and well-organized. It's a bit of history remembered well.

Peaceful place to honor those who gave all. I love reading the headstones. In the process of laying new sod.

We rode through and it has to be the most well kept and beautiful cemetery we have ever seen in person.

Regrettably, there is no public transportation linking southern (Hilton Head) and northern (Beaufort), county that I am aware of.
