Many do not know about Gilbert Stuart, probably our greatest portrait painter, mostly known for painting George Washington. Nice musuem, knowledgable staff. Took about 1 hour to go through it. Out of way location but good signs to get there.

Excellent combination of a small modern gallery featuring Gilbert Stuart and related paintings, fully renovated and working mills with water wheels, and grounds with gardens and nature walks. You can even rent row boats and go fishing. Lovely place.

Birthplace of the American portrait painter is full of history and a great spring to fall destination. Gilbert Stuart painted the best likeness of George Washington. A hidden gem with a new gallery with changing exhibits. Jane Stuart's work is on exhibit now into October.
