Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There is a nice mix of restaurants and shops in this area. We arrived mid-afternoon, grabbed a coffee at Starbucks and sat in the shade of a big tree at a little table and chairs set up and enjoyed watching the people. It was relaxing after walking all morning. We watched a family play a game of cornhole that was set up in the square.

Great food, some decent shops, lots of homeless people. The walk is nice as you can pick up the whole Boulder vibe. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and lots of shops. Not my cup of tea but my wife and daughter loved it.

I've been more impressed with other squares in other towns, but this isn't the worst you'll see. A couple of good restaurants (rest are chain restaurants). No worthy shops on the square, but a few adjacent. Saturday night there's a limited craft fair. Not in the greatest area but the crowds keep it pretty safe.

We were on a fanstatic three hour walking tour that ended here and we thought, wonderful- we can sit and figure out what to do next while we rested our feet. But unlike another review says, there were no tables or chairs. This was April 11 but it was nice out. I think there were two tables and five chairs in the whole square. Someone doesn't care. And, while lots of folks were milling about, noene was relaxing and taking it all in, because you couldn't. We ended up choosing a place right in front of us and sat inside as that was what was available and did fine but I want to give it one beause it wauld be so easy to correct.

Oh what a disappointment this was. We were there on a Sunday morning, all the coffee shops were closed, the only place that was opened was Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. The Dunkin was extremely filthy, so we decided to enjoy our breakfast outside. Well, that wasn't a great option either. The place is filthy, and even though it's an outdoor space, it reeked. Many homeless people all around, the tables/chairs were filthy, so no place to sit down either. It must have been a nice place at some point, with all the 5 star reviews from 2-3 years ago.

For the sake of any out-of-town visitors, I just wanted to correct erroneous information regarding there being no Bathroom facilities in and around the Market Square area.
In PPG's Food Court, on the Lower Level of PPG Tower #2, there is a large Public Restroom. This area is accessed off Market Square, directly across from Dunkin Donut, and is open Mon-Fri.
There is another Public Restroom in the Food Court at 5th Ave Place, less than a block away from Market Square, which is open Mon-Sat. The Food Court is on the mezzanine level, up a short flight of stairs just off the 5th Ave entrance (where the big clock is located outdoors).
A good thing to remember in any City is that most major hotels have Public Restrooms, usually on their ground flloors, and Pittsburgh is no different. If you are visiting the Downtown area, around Market Square, the Fairmont Hotel has a Public Restroom on the 2nd floor, just down the hall from their restaurant, "Habitat." Off course, the hotel is open at all hours, 7 days/week.
If you find yourself having an emergency above Wood St, keep in mind that Macy's on Smithfield St at Fifth Ave has a Public Restroom on the 3rd Floor, right near their Garage Connector Entrance. Macy's is also open daily, but business hours pertain.
I hope this information will be helpful.

Although we only had about 30 minutes at the Christmas market, it was worth the visit. The booths, lights, skating ring made it feel like Christmas. The main tree was gorgeous. Parking isn’t the best, so I would suggest walking if possible. This definitely put us in the Christmas spirit and we are glad we made it, even if it wasn’t for long.

Don't know if we went on the wrong day or it's always like this. But it's full of jewelry shops that sell you at ripped off prices, and others are trying to sell you insurance. Anyway, very disappointed as it lacks diversity, entertainment, and value.

I'm not sure why I keep finding myself in Market square. Its a cool spot with some interesting restaurants and architecture, but am always underwhelmed. A place to see if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way to experience it, unless there is a specific restaurant you want to go to.

Hi. Best to check google maps first to get an idea of distance. Not sure which double tree you plan to stay in. What I usually do is check google maps and then ask the hotel concierge for suggestions to get there.

How far is Market Square from the Marriott City Center?
Written 7 December 2017
It's less than a mile and 5th street is mostly flat. It takes about 15 minutes. Walking is a good idea since parkingis an issue around Market Square

Is there anything open or things to do in market square today or on Sundays?
Written 18 June 2017
There are a few places to eat and walking around town can be a fun experience. If you want to venture further, the strip district is not far away either.

It is about a 20 minute walk, but sidewalks everywhere. It is near the Consol Center where the Penguins play, an area that is being developed and might be a tad dicey at night.
