- OH WINER12 contributionsGood Family FunWent during Thanksgiving week so very crowded. Some shows were delayed due to crowds but were interesting. Mars exhibition quite good. Titanic interesting, but layout of artifacts made for bunching up of viewing areas. Entry times should have been spread out more. Kids areas great and lots of activities for them.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 November 2023
- kwnike13Grand Island, New York463 contributionsAmazing model trains!!This place is amazing for families with small children. I wish we were in Pittsburgh longer and had more time to spend at this amazing place. There are so many interactive activities and exhibits to keep everyone of all ages entertained. Besides the fart machine my son absolutely loved the model train exhibit. This thing was enormous and so detailed that we could have spent the entire day just in this section looking at all the small details.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 January 2024
- Hector BolanosChicago, Illinois107 contributionsNice place.Recently saw the Titanic Artifacts Exhibit here, it was very interesting and had a very good presentation. The theater here is also very impressive, so were the movies they were showing. We did miss out on the USS Requin submarine, as it was closed for the season. But it would have been nice to see it, but there were still other worth while exhibits. Like human anatomy and the Pittsburgh historical replica and model trains. All-in-all, a very worth-while excursion.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 January 2024
- TheHappyWanderer58Pennsylvania34 contributionsSo much to see!The Science Center was hosting the Titanic Exhibition at the time of our visit. We also saw the USS Requin and the Miniature Railroad. There were so many other exhibits to see, but we only had time for these three. All were wonderful and I highly recommend.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 March 2024
- Mineral2004Philadelphia, Pennsylvania249 contributionsFamily time funThe kids (age 3,6,8) and adults enjoyed the day! We played, checked out the submarine and saw a planetarium show. The sports section was really cool too. We liked the variety of topics and can’t wait to go back. Overall the $1 for the locker and $6 for parking was nice. HOWEVER !!! We did not like the masked people walking around. In full animal outfits due to a local conference. I checked out the FAQ and didn’t see anything about a dress code but we believe these masks are not appropriate. Either the admission people missed them or they skipped paying.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 July 2024
- Tim WYoungstown, Ohio67 contributionsWonderful place for all ages.Where do i begin praising this wonderful place? The current PIXAR exhibit is enthralling with vibrant displays and numerous interactive stations which allow you to experience the actual CGI process. During my 2 visits with different friends, everyone was engaged with the interactive opportunities, from very young children to old folks, like me. The Rangos Giant Cinema is stunning with its 3D capabilities. These are only two of the many options in the multi-level building and the Navy submarine moor adjacently on the Ohio River. Be sure to step outside to get a spectacular view of "The Point" with "The Golden Triangle" as its backdrop. This is Pittsburgh's claim to fame!Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 September 2024
- MomOf4GreatOnes44 contributionsFocused on childrenWe had been to the science center years ago with our small children and really enjoyed it. We went back this time with 2, now grown up - completely different experience. The science displays are interactive, very hands-on and good for children. But we quickly realized that the center is basically designed for families with children. We found it too basic for us. And beware on summer weekdays: As we walked in the front door, we were met with the sight and sound of what seemed to be hundreds of school-age children who were visiting with various summer camps. The kids we saw were well-behaved and loved the exhibits, but they were everywhere, making it sometimes difficult for us to see displays. The noise level was high - to be expected in a large cement and glass building full of excited kids. We bought our tickets, then had trouble finding the exhibit areas ... took a public elevator, then were told we couldn't be on that floor because it was a special exhibit area. We had to ask where to find a map, which should've been offered when we purchased our tickets. The submarine walk-through was closed that day due to weather, but we had seen it in the past, and it is interesting. For the entertainment our family got out of this, we felt this was pretty pricey ($97 for 4 of us!), compared to other venues we visited during our time in Pittsburgh. Our high points: We did enjoy the train display - so many details, and you can take your time to walk and check it all out. In summary: Nice for families with kids.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 September 2024

Went as a family with my wife and our four year old, my son had a blast and wanted to spend all day there. We all enjoyed our time there it's hard to choose what was our favorite I really enjoyed touring the requin, which is a submarine that you can tour. They also had an amazing miniature railroad exhibit and a great temporary exhibit on guitars, my only gripe is that the gift shop doesn't really sell much stuff with the museum name on it, it mostly just has stuff that is overpriced and kids beg to get when you can get the same stuff for a fraction of the price elsewhere that has no tie to the museum

Went there while my fiance and I were in town for something else because we saw a billboard for the Mummies of the world exhibit. The Mummies of the world is exhibit was interesting and we enjoyed it; however, the rest of the museum was geared completely toward children so was quite boring for us. It is a great place if you have children but if it's just adults it's not worth it.

One of the best kids science museums I've taken the kids to. There is much to see and do, to include hands on and visual displays of a variety of science areas (from water to biology to robotics, including historic robots from entertainment history and not, to you name it). Overlooks the river and downtown Pittsburgh.

My family and I recently got to visit the Carnegie Science Center. I would certainly recommend visiting if you're in the area. Lots of interesting and interactive science related activities for the family. We also got to tour an old submarine. You get to see the inside of the submarine, crew quarters and get a feeling for daily living about the submarine...you probably don't want to try this if you're claustrophobic.

This place is definitely catered to children of all ages. You have to like space and robotics to really appreciate this place as this is most of what this place is all about. The planetarium was a highlight here, with informative shows provided at regular intervals. The room full of robots was pretty fascinating. My personal favorite was the Lost in Space robot, the actual robot used in Season 2 of the '60s TV series, equipped with varying quotes and quips from the original Robot voice provided by Dick Tufeld. But the most spectacular thing here was the large room adjacent containing a replica of Pittsburgh with a fully-operating train station. From any angle it looked absolutely real with so much fine detail. I spent 20 minutes in here alone. An adjacent building was dedicated to sports science...not quite my thing, but many people spent quite some time exploring here, and there were a lot of happy faces.
Just one thing prevented me from giving this place 5 stars...the gift shop had nothing for anyone over 17. These gift shops need to expand their focus. I came out of this one with nothing. All-in-all, this is a very good family stop.

My teen suggested this place for our weekend in Pittsburgh, and we ended up having a great time. Neither of us had ever been to a laser show, so we saw the Queen one, and it was a lot of fun. There were a lot of demonstrations both inside and out going on the day we were there. Most of the exhibits are very interactive and the museum was busy but still navigable on a Saturday afternoon. The guitar exhibit was fun to play with. The gift shop was very reasonably priced too. We're both bummed that we missed the robot room that we noticed later on their website later, so we will be back at some point to check that out.

We visited for the Mummy Exhibit. There was a lot of people mostly because it was cold outside but it was very educational. Lot of things for kids to do, view and learn. They also have membership prices for individuals and families. The sporting complex was fun for all ages on the inside. The kids there were having a blast.

This huge science Museum had a lot going on. We paid $5 to park and $30 for entrance, child and senior prices are reduced. The Mountaineer Rail Road film through the Canadian Rockies is $7 extra. We got timed tickets to walk through the submarine. There was a large café and huge gift shop.
There were a lot of hands-on demonstrations. Many of the displays were interactive. We went through the space exhibit, water exhibit, body Works and robotics. All were interesting and well done. We walked from the back to the front of the US S Requiem submarine.

This kid friendly, interactive, hands on museum is just wonderful. We came back this year for part of our vacation because our one day last summer was not enough time. Between the sports area (a heart rate raising variety of activities- they even have a giant game of "Operation"), the submarine (dad's favorite), and everything from a miniature railroad to space exploration exhibits, I promise you, there is something for all the kids- and even the adults. They were very quick (but kind about it) to ask people to keep their masks on (COVID-19). My son (13) is bad about taking it off.
One more note, since we were there during the pandemic: I don't know how close to capacity they were, but it was far less crowded than the year before. If you don't like crowds, now is the time to reserve your spot.

Thought to take the incline with the kids then go to museum. How do you get from Incline to the science center?
Written 25 November 2018
You can walk. Its a few blocks, but doable for all but the youngest kids.
Written 26 November 2018
Are the exhibits geared towards kids or can a group of adults appreciate the museum?
Written 9 November 2018
The exhibits are geared towards kids as in there is lots to touch, cool things to see that attract kids, and things to figure out. It is also interesting to adults on a different level because the explanations about science adults will process on a deeper level, the submarine is great, and lots of things adults would find interesting to look at too. If the Lego exhibit is still there all the adults and children found that amazing!

On average, how long do you suggest it takes to experience the center?
Written 8 April 2018
It depends on your energy level and time constraint.I go frequently with my grandchildren \.We do 3-4 hours depending on the programs(EXCELLENT)scheduled.A lunch break is helpful in their spacious cafeteria (buy or bring).Plan on more time than you scheduled.Always a fine experience for ALL ages.

You could easily spend the entire day. We got there around 11 and stayed until closing (actually, a little after because the laser light show we saw didn’t start until 5:45 p.m.).

Yes you may, it is a great hands on Museum. Enjoy!!!

There is plenty of parking across the streets in the stadium parking lots. I would assume there is RV parking nearby as they tailgate for football games
Written 7 March 2018
Yes it is $150 per year, and that includes admission to not only the Carnegie Museum, but also the Science Center and the Warhol museum, also discount parking .....its a very good deal.
