The 658-seat Colonial Theatre is located in the heart of downtown Phoenixville, Pennsylvania at 227 Bridge Street. Opened in 1903, the Colonial is the last surviving of four theatres once existing in the borough and is the only theatre of its kind in Chester County. In its early days, the Colonial was home to live stage shows, vaudeville acts and musicals including appearances by Harry Houdini and Mary Pickford. Real movie buffs know that the Colonial was featured in the 1958 science fiction classic, "The Blob," starring Steve McQueen and filmed in and around Phoenixville. The theatre is owned and operated by the Association for the Colonial Theatre (ACT), a nonprofit corporation, which re-opened the theatre in 1999. The Colonial's programming includes art and independent films seven nights a week, classic films, cult & horror films, programs for young audiences, live concerts, and community events. ACT is committed to the full restoration of the Colonial as a cultural arts center.

The Colonial has been and is going thru renovations... all for the better. Besides their current theatre, they are expanding next door for more screens. The theatre is a decent size, not long and narrow like the newer ones. This is an original.

Colonial Theatre is a well preserved historical building located in downtown Phoenixville. Here you may go and watch a variety of films in both black and white as well as color. They also have a variety of musical talent, shows, comedy, and the infamous recreation of the Blob, to name a few. Programing for children is also provided. Overall, something... More

The Colonial is a great local theater with very cool programming. They feature great independent films, features, and concerts. I was there on Christmas Eve and they were showing "It's A Wonderful Life", very cool to see on the big screen. If you have the choice pick The Colonial, you will not be disappointed. It is also where the original... More

Have watched movies, comedians, and musical acts over the years in this historical building and the experience has always exceeded expectations. When paired with one of the local BYOBs, it makes for a great evening!

My family loves this theatre! They play independent films that are not always played at big theatres like the Regal. The atmosphere is super charming! I would much rather give my money to this independent theatre than a big chain.

We had ran across this event on a Philadelphia 'Events' email and decided to give it a try. The information provided to lure people to the event was not exactly truthful....well maybe it just lacked some details that would have altered our choice in coming to Splatterfest. The $50 VIP ticket included what was listed as a Pre-Show Buffet Dinner... More

Great spot, one of a kind. They are in process of adding renovations also. They show classic movies and new foreign film releases. Best spot in Phoenixville hands down, love it.

I typically go to the Colonial Theatre on Friday nights with my husband. We grab a little dinner at the counter at the BYOB across the street, the Black Lab, with plenty of time to make it to the movie. I love the theater because it's lovely in its details: balcony, architecture, painted frescoes and artwork all around. They show... More
