In 1954, the play, “Plain and Fancy” was a smash hit on Broadway. The Broadway hit drew a spotlight as the play was featured around the Amish lifestyle and their home: Lancaster County. This was the tipping point of a tourist boom the progressively grew from 25,000 annual visitors to 2,000,000 by 1960. Due to the increase of tourists and invasion of privacy of the Amish, Lancaster-local Adolph Neuber believe that there should be a place to accurately learn about the Amish, while respecting their privacy. An Amish family opened their home and property to visitors for tours. Since 1955, The Amish Farm and House has been connecting the Amish community and the public.

Tour Lancaster County’s Amish Farm and House. Opened nearly 60 years ago, The Amish Farm and House has hosted travelers from around the world visiting Lancaster County. Experience Lancaster County’s Premier Amish Attraction with our farm and house tours.

Farm visit

The kids loved the place. Walking amongst my the animals on the farm was great. We even saw a water snake in the stream. We drove by the Amish district late to watch the natives.

Not much in there to be honest. Lots of geegaws and postcards. No Amish foods. Spacious and a lot of parking as it is next door to Target.

I am assuming you did not take either of our very interesting and highly popular tours. Both, our house as well as our bus tours, are extremely educational. On our farm we have lots of interesting work shops with local artisans as well as a variety of farm animals and even a corn maze. I am glad you stopped in... More

This was a waste of time and money for us. Admission is $10 pp which included the museum tour and self tour of the "farm". First, we were surprised that this is basically in the parking lot of a Target (see photo). We walked around the farm a bit but it is small and not a lot to see. The... More

We are sorry your visit was not what you expected. We too were saddened when parts of our pastures and farmland were sold for commercial development, but we have actually had an increase of contact with our Amish neighbors who LOVE the Target! The historic heart of our farm was preserved. There are lots of permanent exhibits, displays, and animals... More

Guide took us through a typical family home to see how the Amish lived and worshipped - very interesting. Also told sad history about religious persecution suffered in Europe. Several outdoor buildings and working farm with animals. We thought the schoolhouse and teacher there to be the most interesting detail of the place, probably because not much different than when... We came with some preconceptions that were immediately changed with excellent information and a great walk through a traditional house with Jamie as our guide, she was knowledgable and delivered a great deal of information in a very enjoyable way.

Our trip to "Amish Country" was spur of the moment. No plans, just a little extra time while in Gettysburg so we figured "why not?" We found the Amish Farm and House by chance and I have to say we loved it. While we chose not to do the tour, we visited the shops and loved the area. In today's... More

I highly recommend the bus tour. Our guide was lovely but a little scattered. It could have been because we were the first tour of the day. We saw some beautiful scenery and learned how to spot the Amish home vs typical homes. The Amish store we stopped in sold amazing lemonade and some fabulous baked goods. Their simple way... More

We paid for the premium package and loved the 90 minute bus tour. Even though my wife and I grew up in the Lancaster area, we were surprised to see some areas that we had not known of before and to glean insights that we were not aware of. Now, when we have guests come from out of town, we'll... More
