In 1954, the play, “Plain and Fancy” was a smash hit on Broadway. The Broadway hit drew a spotlight as the play was featured around the Amish lifestyle and their home: Lancaster County. This was the tipping point of a tourist boom the progressively grew from 25,000 annual visitors to 2,000,000 by 1960. Due to the increase of tourists and invasion of privacy of the Amish, Lancaster-local Adolph Neuber believe that there should be a place to accurately learn about the Amish, while respecting their privacy. An Amish family opened their home and property to visitors for tours. Since 1955, The Amish Farm and House has been connecting the Amish community and the public. Tour Lancaster County’s Amish Farm and House. Opened nearly 60 years ago, The Amish Farm and House has hosted travelers from around the world visiting Lancaster County. Experience Lancaster County’s Premier Amish Attraction with our farm and house tours.

Our Aussie touring group visited an Amish display home & then went to see the actual farmhouses in the rural community of the area. Certainly something different for all in the touring party most of whom probably haven't seen the way they live their lives...More

I have now visited both this site and the Amish Village. There is no reason to do both as each site takes you on a guided tour of the home, explaining the Amish way of life, and then gives you time to explore several outbuildings...More

Very informative, comfortable bus ride, with nice stops at Amish family businesses rather than touristy stops. House tour was very good too. Good value for price. I learned alot!

A nice way to start a first visit to Lancaster County's Amish country. Old Amish farm and house in the midst of recent strip mall suburbia. Don't be turned off by the commercial neighborhood! Take the hourly guided tour of the house (included in $9...More
