This was a pleasant place for locals to have a picnic as a large group were doing when we arrived. We took the walk through the trees and shrubs, sitting to admire the ancient Chinese horse in the lake. I think some work is needed to clean up the lake a little.

The discovery of gold in Australia in the mid 1800s attracted great interest from miners from all over the world including Europe, America and China. When gold was first discovered at Lambing Flat ( Young) in 1860 the area was swamped by miners wanting to seek their fortune.

Amongst those miners were Hermann and Johann Tiedermann, German brothers who built the dam when they started the Victoria Hill sluicing claim. Water was valuable during this time because water washed dirt from the gold. In the 1870s the brothers sold it to a group of Chinese who worked on the site, the sale was never documented and the records show it is Crown Land. This area has been known by residents in the area as Chinamen's Dam since the late 1880s.

From 1885 to 1901 the railway locomotives stopped here to replenish their water supplies.

In 1992 the Chinese Tribute Gardens started to be developed, " In recognition of the contribution of the Chinese community to the settlement of Young in the 1860s and to the ongoing contributions of the Chinese people to Australia as a Nation".

When I arrived here on the morning of the 3rd October, I was the only person in the large carpark. There are toilets here as well I was able to walk through the gardens and enjoy their charm and serenity.

We recently visited Lambing Flat Chinese Tribute Garden early in the morning. We walked all around admiring the beautiful gardens, the monuments, & the ducks on the water. The peace was amazing & it is a fitting tribute to the people who suffered so much.

A few minutes out of town you will find a beautiful haven with so much to offer. It’s so quiet there and you can’t help but feel relaxed. There are good toilets, grassy areas, covered picnic tables, covered bbqs, walking paths around the ponds, lots of ducks, water hens, swans and of course the lovely Tribute Gardens. We had a late lunch there on a Saturday and sat there for nearly two hours, chatting, laughing and feeling so relaxed and happy.

This was the BEST Chinese food we have had in years because we live in Florida now and were visiting a friend. There were 3 of us at lunch. My husband and I shared a lunchtime Shrimp with Hot Garlic Sauce, and requested it extra spicy. Our friend had a Mandarin Chicken with white meat, which was an extra cost. At first I thought the lunch prices were a little high, but the huge servings really made it a value. The shrimp with extra spicy hot garlic sauce was loaded with shrimp, freshly cooked veggies, and was perfectly seasoned. Even the combination fried rice was loaded with shrimp and other meats and was absolutely delicious. This meal was hands down the BEST Chinese food we've had in years. Our friend ordered a Mandarin Chicken which he thoroughly enjoyed. The portions are HUGE and could easily make 2 meals. The service was cordial and our waitress checked on us to ensure we were fine. Also, the restroom and the restaurant were clean. We highly recommend this place and will return when we are in the area.

A great spot for an afternoon walk and family picnic area. There are places to sit, play soccer or cricket, fish and just walk around the lovely grounds. A wonderful tribute to the heartache that occurred and now instead of sadness, a place of real joy for families and friends wanting to make the most of their stay. If you only have a short time in Young, I highly recommend coming here!

A wonderful tribute to the Chinese miners, and a reminder of an ugly event in Australia’s history. Unfortunately not the best time of the year to visit, although very nice, it will be very pretty in Spring with the flowering trees and shrubs. The landscaping is impressive and the information boards are helpful. Beautiful picnic and barbecue spot.

The Tribute garden itself was quite small. Nice enough. There were new stones being laid around the area which I assume were making way for more paths.

The dam itself just outside the graden captured our interest more. There were loads of area to picnic...tables or grassy banks , plenty of parking ( although we were a quiet time of year).

A pretty garden to visit, and lovely gardens to roam around with the dam and picnic areas to use. A very tidy garden with lovely lake and fountains etc. Relaxing and quiet to meander around. Does not take long to walk around the gardens

This place has changed over the years; this is a little gem just out of town. Great grass areas to sit and relax or picnic. A few BBQ's also. Very tranquil place to be. The tribute gardens are also very well done!
