Big orchard, well organised, cherries a bit watery
Dec. 2020
A large commercial enterprise with cherries and other fruits. Their online booking system was efficient and real-time. Pick-your-own cherry prices were in line with other nearby orchards at $8/kg.
I didn't get the opportunity to try any of their wines or the ice cream.
Staff were friendly though not all of them seemed to be familiar with the varieties of cherries that were in the orchard.
I felt that out of the 3 orchards I visited in the Wombat/Young region this season, the cherries at Ballinaclash were the most watery and had the least sweetness. Naturally this depends on the variety that is being offered for picking at any given moment, and to their credit, this orchard had a few white flesh cherry trees hidden amongst their crop - presumably these were Rainiers, or possibly Napoleons.
Upon arrival, my booking was confirmed, I was given a bucket and given directions to drive up to the orchard. I would have liked to have the rows marked with the cherry varieties so that I knew exactly what I was picking, but I understand this is not always common or practical. Anyway, a pleasant afternoon was spent here. They do have coach parking spaces so I'd be a little wary of visiting if I saw a chinese tour bus parked there, but luckily there was no such annoyance during my visit!

Great weekend away
Nov. 2019 • Friends
We have been visiting Ballinaclash every year for the last 3 years & going again in 2020. We have a lot of fun picking cherries, & apricots & buying some of their delicious produce and wines. In 2019 we introduced our friends to this weekend adventure, they’re all hooked and will be returning. The staff are friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you for this positive feedback! We are always delighted when our customers want to keep coming back, and even more so, when they bring their friends! We are looking forward to our 2020 Pick Your Own Cherries Season which will begin early November. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are introducing a booking system this year via our website www.ballinaclash.com.au This will be up by mid-October. We have had beautiful Winter & Spring rain & so it is looking like it could be a great season. See you again soon at Ballinaclash!

Delicious Cherrys and a Fun Self Pick
Nov. 2019 • Family
Beautiful huge orchard with many trees of two variety of cherries. We located via following drive where a staff member drove up to take us to the chosen area ready for picking, was given a bucket to use as a plastic bag support which can be held supported over your arm instead of just a plastic bag that could rip open .
Was such a fun self pick of cherries where a number of other public pickers drove up also to and when you’ve decided you’ve picked as much as you want to take home the final cost per kg was awesome compared to what I have been paying from a usual suburban fruit shop at this start of season.

This is the cherry farm I will be going to for a fruit pick again next time hoping the peaches will be available also to pick

Fantastic place to go and absolutely lovely staff. Their Rose was the surprise of the day, it's not normally something we would buy. Great hospitality, and it was so nice to support a true family business. Please stop by and try, you won't be disappointed.

We stopped here due to all the signage.

The cherry picking was ok but much busier than other places.

The cherry pie looks amazing but we would rate it a 5/10. Not all that tasty and the pastry is not fabulous. Although it’s great to see them make it in house - even though they should have be wearing hygienic clothing/cooking attire.

The cherry ice cream is nice.

Sorry you were disappointed in our pie. Our aim is to showcase the cherries that we have grown and prepared here at Ballinaclash, so we avoid adding extra flavours and spices.I can assure you though our kitchen practices are very hygienic.

Cherry picking
Nov. 2018 • Couples
Grab your bucket and start picking the cherry laden trees. Great value when you pick your own at $8 a kilo compared to $15 a kilo from the front of the shop. Amazed at how many cherries are on the tree and after a few for you and the rest in the bucket, walk back to try their great wines and grab a cherry pie to go. Not many vineyards open for trade yet this early in the season but feel this is the best place to go anyway.

We are delighted you enjoyed your visit to Ballinaclash. We have planted several varieties of cherries so that the season spans over as long a time as possible for our customers. As you said, there is an amazing amount of cherries on our trees this year - the season is looking fantastic! We are glad you also got to try our other the treats. The wines are going really well, having won some great awards, including Best Cabernet Sauvignon in NSW & taking out the Champion Wine of the Show at the Canberra & Region Wine Show. Our cherry pies just walk out the door. In fact ,at times, we have people waiting at our kitchen door, for the next batch to come out of the oven! We are also pleased that you appreciate the great value you are getting at our orchard when you Pick Your Cherries, and although our Farmgate Shop prices are dearer than the Pick Your Own (there is a lot more work and time involved in getting them there) we always try to give the best quality at the best price we can. Thank you for reviewing Ballinaclash.

GREAT PLACE TO VISIT FOR CHERRY PICKING
Dec. 2017 • Couples
This is a must to visit when you are in Young. You can pick your own cherries for only $8.00 a Kilo, after a bumpy hay ride on a truck up to the cherry trees. The cherries to eat are fantastic. You can pick other fruit also, the apricots are so fresh and they also have a well stocked shop that sells their own wine and other goodies. Try there homemade cherry ice cream and their cherry pies, all made on the premises are the best in Young. We bought 4 large pies back home to have at Xmas, they are that good. All staff are helpful and the owners are lovely people and are very friendly. This is not the newest orchad in Young but it is the best. We will be back for sure.
