Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked my grandkids (youngest 6, oldest 14) into the Sawtwell School Holiday lessons.
4 days in total. Darren was great to deal with sorting some preliminary admin issues and confirming wet suits would be available. Luke and his team at Sawtell were great and the grandkids and all were riding waves the first day. Things just got better as they went on.

Best activity for kids!! Super safe under the watchful eye of the coaching team. Multiple staff in the water with the kids. My 5yr and 9yr old had the best time over 3 days and could stand up on day 1. The coaches really make sure the kids get the most out of the time and fill the hour (plus some) with many waves. 11/10 experience not to be missed. Wetsuits included for colder days.

I have been learning how to surf with Darryn for 5 years now. Since, there is not much time to practice in between, I always come for a refresher and I am amazed every time how quickly they make me progress and build my confidence out in the waves…
I was fortunate enough to be coached by Chris, Jonny and Cooper. All three with their unique approach, extensive knowledge have made me love this activity. Previous years, I have joined the group lesson and this year I decided to book some private lessons which turned out to be the right thing for me. It’s great to learn the basics about ocean and beach safety in a group and have a bit of a laugh with those first face planks but as you progress, I highly recommend a few private lessons and then it’s all about being in the ocean…
Everyday, these guys patiently and with such friendliness approach each new, keen surfer and pass along their passion for riding the waves. With a van full of high quality boards, they provide you with wetsuits of all sizes, sunscreen and everything you might need. The prices of these lessons are reasonable and when I see how much I learned and how much confidence I have gained, it worth every cent. They put a lot of accent on water safety and it’s remarkable how it all runs smoothly.
I am very grateful to have met such a great mob and I will continue to attend their lessons because every day out in the ocean is different. This surfing school should not be missed if you want to have a bit of fun and learn something new. Thank you!

We got the kids a couple of surf lessons on holidays and Casey was great with them. He constantly kept his eye on them and kept communicating with them all the time helping them to improve. We bought our daughter a foam board and Darren was happy to help us with our local spot. Thanks 😊

We had a group of 4 kids ranging in ages from 8 to 15 years who completed 2 lessons with Darryn and his team at Woolgoolga main beach. They all had a fantastic time and got to ride a few waves. The instructors were all very knowledgeable and patient communicating well with the kids. Wetsuits and appropriate sized boards were all supplied. Both days it was a group of 14 or so kids but the instructors were good at ensuring they spent time with each of the kids. A great experience that has inspired my kids to continue with surfing - Darryn even hooked us up with a second hand board to buy! This will become a regular school holiday activity for us as it was a good value, fun experience for all.

Family enjoyed two sessions; both of which were successful in get all members (even Mum and Dad) riding waves back to the shore.
School accommodates all differing sizes of boards and wetsuits to meet your needs.

Thanks John for your clear coaching and hands-on support in helping the family catch all those ”sneaky little” waves. 🏄‍♂️🏄‍♀️

We had a week of early morning lessons and loved it! Our instructor Toby was awesome, giving us great tips and helping us catch lots of waves from our first day. Woolgoolga is a fantastic spot for surfing, we can’t wait to come back next year! Can only recommend 🙌🏽.
