Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Singleton is an historical town of around 20,000 inhabitants nestled within the bends of the Hunter River in the Hunter Valley NSW. The town area has a very long history of both Aboriginal and European settlement. As you would expect the little museum in the lovely Burdekin Park, George St Singleton is home to many interesting artifacts that chronologically represent the towns history as an agricultural, dairy farming, coal mining and wine producing centre. I enjoyed browsing through the history of the pioneers and towns people and the very informed and friendly staff just added to an interesting hour or so spent there.

Not only a pictures of an Australian rural life of 1800-1900 but a unique collection of old technologies and devices that were retired many years ago, such as a communication device between an office and warehouse, old bicycles, predecessors of fridge and washing machines etc.Very fiendly, helpful and knowledgeble staff, approaching the visitors and telling the amasing stories of the past. Small fee of $3 per adult and $! for schoolchild. A nice park with a colony of flying foxes and a playground nearby,

Donated my grandmothers 130 year old dolls to the museum. Meet Peggy to hand the dolls over for their new forever home. There is some amazing antiques and historical items. I was in ore of all the museum contained. I was so impressed how much was inside this building, from tools, toys, farming machines & now some lovely old dolls. A must to visit and appreciate the past and this little towns amazing roots.

Open Tuesdays and Thursdays by the Men's Shed guys. Really enjoyed the visit, many interesting pieces and our guide really good as well. A must if you are into old things and history.

The museum has limited opening hours as it is run by volunteers which are hard to find these days. But the collection is well worth the visit - it’s a very big collection for such a small town, and covered farming, home life, costumes, transport, Aboriginal artefacts, local history of settlement....and more. I especially liked the ‘over the top’ scrolls of thanks to local dignitaries - beautifully illuminated manuscripts. And the collection of Bowling Club pins - over 6000! And the volunteers were very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my visit and recommend it. And it only cost $3 and $1 for children. What a bargain.

This is a small country town Museum. Having said that it is packed with information. There is so much there to see, you will need to take 3 to 4 hours to see most of what is in the building. Even then you will not get to read all of the information on all of the exhibits.

Ended up staying at Singleton on an unplanned trip to Hunter Valley. Didn't expect much but my goodness... so much history in that little space. Didn't hesitate to make a donation they only charged $2 admission price.
Saw the first cash register in action! A must see!

I actually visited with my daughters school it was a really great place.
The community has donated lots of great things and the volunteers are really commuted and enthusiastic.
I probably wouldn't have decided to go by self. I really need to take the whole family back.
My husband manages a local historical property, so I found it really interesting and they have a lot of information on local houses and attractions.
Well worth a visit.

Staff were lovely, well stocked on interesting stories.
There's so much information in the little museum that we ended up staying much longer than expected.
Worth a visit for $3 entry.

A superb little museum run by volunteers, who are happy to answer your questions.
So many things to look at, including some history of Singleton.
Worth the visit even just for 3 special things- the Bell In The Tree, the Clockwork Jack for roasting meat over a flame, and the Ball Mechanism for money in a shop.
But really, there's a lot more as well, including hand made lace.
I'm recommending this to anyone, and the $5 entry fee is very fair.
Thank you to the volunteers for a superb job. 👍
