Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited here a while ago for an Architecture excursion where we had to design a potential building for the beautiful site. I was lucky enough to run into Michael who happily answered any questions I had and gave me some extra insight into the history of the property. All of the extra knowledge I received made the assessment so much easier to complete and Michael had so much passion when sharing his info. I would love to come back and do a proper tour of the property soon!

It was fascinating to learn about the history of this beautiful homestead. The audio guide is a terrific idea! Loved the Aboriginal seed-grounding grooves, the 400-year-old Moreton Bay fig,the piglets, the grounds. Received a very warm welcome at reception. Will look into staying at The Barracks.

The homestead and barn is a perfect venue for a wedding. We held ours in September on a weekend with perfect weather and the venue couldn't have been more wonderful. Our guests were very impressed with the setting which made for stunning photos. Only feedback I would give is to have options for catering companies as the one they currently have did not meet expectations.

Thank you for your review Stef. We are sorry to hear that the catering was not what you expected! We have a contract with one caterer/wedding coordinator company, that being Sprout Catering, who we are very proud of and provide an exceptional service. If you have any concerns, please contact them directly.

My wife and I visited this beautifully preserved and serviced old homestead and farm buildings dating from 1800’s. A fantastic relic for the area and a valuable window into the past. All buildings and artefacts in good condition for their age. It was great to see that the historic society was utilising the old Barnet building to house educational functions for kids. We’re able to use the new tour electronic guides and maps. New Maps could use some revision and detail to reflect the tour route but good to see the electronic enhancements.

Attended a Wedding at Tocal. The wedding was held in the grounds outside the homestead. What a perfect setting. Huge moreton bay fig trees provide an amazing backdrop for the wedding photographs as does the lake nearby. Reception held on site. Perfect in every way

This is a great historic site to wander around at the weekend, with farm buildings dating back to the 1820s, an 1830 convict-built stone barn and an 1830s convict barracks. The blacksmith's shop looks unchanged from the 1800s. The two-storey Tocal Homestead is interesting but fairly plain and stark, in contrast to the outbuildings which really have a lot of character and atmosphere. There is a self-guided audio tour which gives all the basic information about what you are looking at. Well worth a visit.

This is a review about the CB Alexander Agricultural College close to the historical homestead. During 50 years since its establishment , the facilities of the college has been extended year after year, and still it keeps the great atmosphere and totality. The harmony of traditional brick walls and timber roofs are so brilliant, and the extraordinary composition between many courts and building layout is breath-taking.
The building won the best enduring architecture award in 2014, selected by Australia Institute of Architects.

The homestead is well worth a look as it has some great historical buildings. We also did the Open day at the college which was brilliantly run and very informative. A lovely part of the world.

Have been to Tocal Homestead several times now. The actual open day they have each year is so worth the visit. Lots to see and do, and the history is amazing.
