Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lake Alexandra is almost my best place in NSW. Every time we are passing through Mittagong we always stop for a walk around the lake. there are many birds to see as well as turtles, snakes and ducks by the million, it is quite unique. WE love the lake.

The lake was absolutely depleted over the summer. The fish suffered and the ducks had to find elsewhere.
After much-needed rain, the lake is all but full and the wildlife is returning.
Now ... if we could just stop people throwing bread rolls into the water, which only encourages the carp ...

Lovely lake and easy, short walk around i, very close to main road. I was lucky enough to meet a local who pointed out a golden carp that always swims around the same spot, turtles and a water dragon on a fallen tree in the water, and the spot where usually a lizard group usually basks but didn't turn up today. This is a popular place for locals to walk their dogs. There is a lovely children's playground in front of the lake, and a toilet block. There's also some outdoor exercise equipment.
I will make a point of dropping in here when passing through Mittagong, especially on a lovely, sunny day.

Nice healthy lake, one side is covered in cars but the other side is very green and pleasant. Best place in Mittagong since everywhere else is covered in trucks. Good jump off point for bushwalks. I went up the road and fire trail to Mt Alexandra/Katoomba Lookout. Nice view west to the national parks but the monstrously noisy highway is right underneath, which discouraged me from walking down the other side in that direction, so I returned and went along the low fire trail to the next park and it took about an hour up and back.

The reserve is lovely. A small man-made lake surrounded by green lawns and a walking track. There are ducks and other water birds, and apparently there are also turtles. There are BBQs, undercover areas with seating, a place for kids to play and trees to sit under. Well worth a visit

This is a great family spot with a nice walk around the lake. There was plenty of wildlife on the water and a small playground for the kids.

Now let's just say you are enjoying a really busy long weekend down in the Southern Highlands of NSW and you need a quick time out.
Maybe the kids need a bit of a run around out of the car... or its just the two of you and you've bought lunch and a drink from the one of the nearby cafes (like Rose) or a bakery.. well this is really pleasant spot sneak off to...
Why? cos its just so pleasant and peaceful. This autumn we just sat in the sunshine and watched the big fountain jet play over the water out in the middle of the Lake , with all those lovely golden rust and red autumn leaves on the trees at the lakefront, giving way to the big gum trees marching off up the hillside to Mount Alexandra in the background.
There are convenient benches, a play area for the kids somewhere to walk the dog...the usual raucous Aussie bird life
and here's the thing... if you eaten lunch, slurped down flat white, had a play with the kids and the dog or just vegged out and contemplated your navel for the requisite half and hour there is still a really serious bush walk a hop skip and a jump away... (tracks all well signed) just up the VERY BIG bushy hill... in fact you could go for hours into Nattai National park if you had a mind to.. or just get a bit huffed and puffed walking up to the lookout at the top of Alexnadra that faces out across the blue mountains to Katoomba some 50KMs away.
And if that's not enough remember you are less than 20 minutes untroubled drive away from at least 3 good cellar doors: Tertini, Artemis and Joadja, just tucked away down the road and round the corner (Old Hume Highway signs to Berima will take you to straight to Artemis *(which also does a really nice wood fired pizza served in an outdoor setting if the kids are still peckish and energetic), then make a right turn up onto the Wombeyan Caves Road and follow the wine trail.
If you want to stay on Caves Road to see the caves themselves, well you had better have a 4WD and some time to spare....but that's another story

We came here with a big group and it was great for a bbq. Has tracks you can take if you want to go for a bit of a walk too. Beware you’ll need to get there a little early if you want a bbq.

A beautiful Lake, park and picnic grounds. The path around the lake makes for a nice walk to see the turtles, ducks and other wildlife. It provides covered tables next to clean free button push BBQs, so it's beautiful for family picnics. Great for kids as the park is modern and safe. Toilet facilities are clean.
