Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was disappointing that the oyster farm tour was not operating.
My husband bought some oysters and said that they were quite nice

Thank you Martin for a really interesting tour. Hard to comprehend how much labour goes into farming oysters. Fully understand now why they’re expensive. The samples at the finish of the tour were delicious. We had fish n chips the next day there plus bought fresh oysters. Thank you.

We did this tour yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed learning all about oyster farming with genuine oyster farmer Tara. Tara was very knowledgeable but also acknowledged when she didn’t know the answer to some of the more obscure questions asked, instead of trying to fake it like some tour operators are prone to do; she was refreshing. The oyster tasting is the best part of the tour and worth the $22 alone. We ate at the restaurant last night and the food and service there was outstanding. An all round excellent tourist attraction.

What a informative tour Tara was the most enjoyable guide showing us all the processes in oyster farming. Myself never tasting oysters in my life turning 50 tomorrow I tried and enjoyed them so I might be converted 😄 wife might not be happy now she has to share.

My husband and I had seen an add for oyster tours. We came in to get a coffee and was surprised to pay $22 per person for the tour. BUT we loved it and Tara was indeed a breath of fresh air with her passion and info about how oysters are nurtured here at Merimbula. We loved our tour and then sampled a platter at the end, but the best bit was - Tara was amazing as a tourist guide for Wheelers with no training, a massage therapist by accounts...just her passion and although her family also have oyster farms in the area - what a gem...she indeed is Wheelers amazing tour guide #1 ***** 5 star passionate girl. Highly recommend.

Martin our guide was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the whole process of farming, raising and harvesting oysters.

My wife and I ate at Wheeler’s the night before and of course I had the oysters

Was a great hour spent at the farm learning about how oysters are raised and packaged

Highly recommended!

As a solo traveller I tried to book online for the oyster tour and found there was no option to book one ticket. So I drove 20 kms to the location hoping to secure a drop in ticket, which they say they “ welcome” on the website. I deliberately arrived 30 minutes early, before the scheduled 11 am tour so I could purchase the ticket in good time. I was informed that it was unclear whether the tour would go today and was asked to return at 11.20am. I dutifully complied but when I returned at that time, I was informed I was too late, the tour was scheduled at 11am. What incompetence and a waste of my time. This organisation needs to up their game serving the public. Seriously needed jobs in the regions are imperilled by such poor management. I won’t be bothering to return.

As a group of 4, we had to coax 2 in the group to join the tour, but they quickly joined when they were enticed with a tasting at the end. We were so lucky to have been informed about the oyster industry in the region, by the friendly Martin. So informative and interesting, we were all amazed at the time taken to bring the oysters to our tables. We all enjoyed this little tour. Thanks Martin!

Informative tour for those who like to know how their food is grown and harvested. Having seen the oyster leases in the lake at Merimbula, it was interesting to see how much time and the processes used in these pristine waters to produce these beautiful Sydney Rock Oysters. Our guide Martin was happy to answer all our questions, the samples at the end delicious! Learning to shuck oysters enabled us to enjoy the 2 dozen we purchased after, for dinner! Yum!
