Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The water is crystal clear and calm from the protection of the outer reef. Snorkelling is excellent, especially a little further out from the beach or if you go on one of the snorkelling tours on offer. All water tours and snorkelling hire is available from the various operators on the beach. Added to this the view of Mt Lidgbird and Mt Gower is mesmerising.

The lagoon is the trademark turquoise inlet hugging Lord Howe and we took the Turtle Tour and explored its beautiful reef. At the end of a long day, we loved jumping off the jetty into the amazing water. Love it.

On the day without much wind, it is wonderful time to kayak to various snorkelling spots like Comets and Coral gardens. You could enjoy these places for yourself and colours of corals at the Garden are very nice. There are small Galapagos sharks and sting rays to be seen. However, beware if it is windy, as it will be an exercise to get back against the wind.

This is a great beach to walk along. Or relax on. And to swim in. Close to cafes and usually calm and safe to enjoy. Spent many times here and never get tired of visiting

Never busy, nice sand, although some areas need reef shoes. Excellent swimming area well protected. Also good for snorkelling, kayaks and SUP. Good picnic and BBQ facilities. Toilets at 2 locations. Be great for kids.

The beach was truly beautiful to see. The waters were many shades of blue and the sand very white. All the trips left from the shores of this beach such as deep see fishing trips, diving, snorkelling and coral viewing glass bottom boats. Unfortunately this beach seems to get most of the strong winds making the water colder. We did not swim or snorkel in Lagoon beach because of this. Ned's Beach and Middle Beach at low tide were our favourites.

We did the Speciality Snorkelling tour with Lord Howe Environmental Tours who were professional and engaging to deal with. We paid the extra $8 to hire a wet suit and this proved an imperative as after 20 minutes at each snorkelling site one gets cold.
If you wear glasses it is also worth enquiring about the prescription goggles available if you get in early. It is most pleasant to not only see the fish, but when you raise your head from the water to also see clearly the beautiful vistas of Mt Gower, etc.
Would do again!

Plenty of water sports, beautiful walks, challenging mountain hikes and loads of peaceful bliss... Stayed at Pinetrees Resort which was perfect. Relaxing and great food.

Gorgeous Lagoon! What a view! The snorkelling here is amazing! It beats the snorkelling Ive had in Tahiti, Kauai, Fiji, and even the Great Barrier Reef. We went to 3 sites and I continued to see a variety of different fish in each area. It's a must do activity.

I found this lagoon to be some of the best snorkelling that I have ever done anywhere in the world as the waters were just so crystal clear and the coral reefs were still pristine and undamaged.

Hello, is Lord Howe good for snorkeling (I don't dive any more). Would wetsuits be required for late November due to water temps or stingers?
Written 5 July 2018
Take a wetsuit it’s a windyyyy Island. Snorkelling awesome. Go to Ned’s beach feed the fish and swim with em and or do the turtle day trip in the Lagoon, snorkel around em. It’s world heritage through n through. Well kept Island nature.

For an adventurous mature life loving female travelling by herself, which would be the most relaxing, friendly pleasant place to stay? With modest costs (ie not the most expensive, but mid range)?

Interested to know if folk who have swam at LHI in May/June found the water a bit chilly - or was it ok swimming & snorkelling in normal bathers??
Written 19 March 2017
Hey we have been there in February, September and October and the water os very nice. I'm pretty sure LHI has a consistent temperature throughout the year. So i can't answer fully sorry. Hope you enjoy your holiday.

Is it this beach where you can see turtles in the water? Or do you have to go out in the glass bottom boat to snorkel to see them?
What is the best way to ensure I see turtles swimming?
