Pristine beach
May 2021
The lagoon is one of the most beautiful places on the island. The water is clear, the sand is clean and there are rarely any other people around. Views stretch all the way down to the mountains and out to the edge of the reef, past Rabbit Island. A truly lovely place to spend an afternoon on the island.

The clearest and cleanest waters of anywhere on Earth!

The lagoon is the trademark turquoise inlet hugging Lord Howe and we took the Turtle Tour and explored its beautiful reef. At the end of a long day, we loved jumping off the jetty into the amazing water. Love it.

Very picturesque

Never busy, nice sand, although some areas need reef shoes. Excellent swimming area well protected. Also good for snorkelling, kayaks and SUP. Good picnic and BBQ facilities. Toilets at 2 locations. Be great for kids.

Wonderful views

Lagoon Beach is at the heart of Lord Howe - just near the 'town' which consists of 2 or 3 shops. Beautiful for swimming and walking around the rocks at low tide. Loved the white terns that were so unafraid of people. Long walks along the beach and ever-changing views of the mountains, often topped or obscured by cloud. Sunset views were a bonus.

Great open and calm water
Nov. 2020
It is a calm stretch of water that is not too deep. The colours are spectacular, and offset the corals really well on a sunny day.

We took a snorkelling trip over a variety of areas in the lagoon and was able to enjoy a wide variety of corals and fish (even Galapagos sharks - harmless).

We also took out a kayak and had fun kayaking across the North Bay and Old Settlement beach, snorkelling for the kayak in North Bay.

These trips and kayaks can be hired from establishments along Lagoon Road just up from the beach.

Picture Perfect!
Nov. 2020
The photo is exactly how this area looks. There are boat sheds along the lagoon offering all different tours and kayaks, SUP etc for hire. There is a pontoon to swim out to and jump off. The water is crystal clear and an ideal spot for a swim. Snorkeling is good near the rocks.

Stunning
Mar. 2020
The water is crystal clear and calm from the protection of the outer reef. Snorkelling is excellent, especially a little further out from the beach or if you go on one of the snorkelling tours on offer. All water tours and snorkelling hire is available from the various operators on the beach. Added to this the view of Mt Lidgbird and Mt Gower is mesmerising.

Versatile lagoon
Mar. 2020 • Couples
The snorkelling is pretty damn fine if you get out on an a boat, although the shore-based snorkelling is probably better at Ned’s in my opinion. Still, it’s shallow, calm and there’s plenty to look at and great for novice snorkellers. Plus it close to town.

We saw Galapagos sharks, turtles and quite a few different fish species.

Best thing is that even when windy, if you go at the right part of the low tide, the fringing reef protects the lagoon so it’s still good for a snorkel somewhere.

Lagoon beach is pristine and beautiful with magnificent views of Mt Gower, Mt Lingbird and Rabbit Island. The water temperature was divine and we loved swimming everyday in the turquoise clear waters.

We were staying at Pinetrees and enjoyed watching the glorious sunsets whilst sipping on a cool beer at the boat shed overlooking Lagoon Beach.

The lagoon offers something for everyone from snorkelling, kayaking, swimming, and bbq’s picnic spots amongst the Norfolk pine trees. All the tour operators can be found here along the beachfront.

We enjoyed the glass bottom boat tour with Lord Howe Environmental tours to snorkel at Erscott’s hole which was brilliant and the tour to Balls Pyramid. ( not to be missed! ).
