Lord Howe is a wonderful destination if you are into walking. Be aware though that aside from walks along beaches and coastal paths, several of the trails can be quite strenuous. Indeed, in the case of of both Mt Gower and Goat-house Cave, challenging. Most walks involve steps, and these require care, as the earth and gravel easily erodes with... More

Had a great week of walks with the highlight being Mt Eliza although the track to Goat house Cave is the most challenging

I just spent 7 days on Lord Howe island, walking in the best environment imagined. You can walk easy ( little island) or set yourself a challenge (mt gower). Class 2 to class 10 walks). All walks are well sign posted with markers throughout the walk. To get to starts of walks we rode bikes. The views are to die... More

all trails are well maintained, we never encountered any litter and signage is very good. there are trails for everyone from flat 1 hour walks to all very serious hikes to the tops of the mountains

Every walk on the Island offers another Magical view. Well worth getting your fitness up before you travel, as some are quite steep. Tracks are good. Transit Hill, Malabar, Intermediate Hill, Mt Eliza, Kim's Lookout - all fabulous.

All mountain walks are class 3 to 5, but when you get to the top, you have the most stunning views of the island and clean, clear waters that surround

We came to LHI for a week in May 2016 for a week of hiking and scuba diving. This review relates just to the hiking part of our trip. We enjoyed the following hikes: Mt Gower Triple Peaks (Malabar Hill, Kim's Lookout and Mt Eliza) Valley of the Shadows and The Clear Place Intermediate Hill Mt Gower can only be... More

Without a bike, walking is the way to see the island. The tracks are well signposted but can be slippery in the rain. Take a little care and choose a suitable track for your stamina.

We did the Malabar Loop walk from Settlement Beach which took us three and a half hours. The tracks are well maintained and signed. The views are spectacular and on can see hidden beaches, bird life, the whole of the lagoon etc etc.

Both of these walks provide spectacular views over different parts of the island. We walked up both with a 7yr old and a toddler in an ergobaby backpack. Transit hill was perfect for the kids. Kims lookout is truly spectacular but quite steep and slippery when wet and the cliff edge is right there so possibly not our smartest hiking... More
