We did the Malabar Loop walk from Settlement Beach which took us three and a half hours. The tracks are well maintained and signed. The views are spectacular and on can see hidden beaches, bird life, the whole of the lagoon etc etc.

Both of these walks provide spectacular views over different parts of the island. We walked up both with a 7yr old and a toddler in an ergobaby backpack. Transit hill was perfect for the kids. Kims lookout is truly spectacular but quite steep and slippery when wet and the cliff edge is right there so possibly not our smartest hiking... More

One of the highlights of LHI is the walking - there are enough trails to keep you going for a week. Some are quite flat but most require a fair level of fitness. Its worth it though for the scenery and birdlife.

Have stayed on LHI half-a-dozen times & we love walking here with such rewarding views and photo opps for relatively short effort. Quietly ignore those who only give "average" ratings here - just get the "Exploring Lord Howe Island" brochure with topographic map and Aust. Std. Class ratings from the Visitor Centre (located in the Museum). Read the warnings then... More

We managed a walk each day after our morning snorkeling at Ned's Beach. Best was walk to Kim's Lookout. 750 steps (approx) to top of hill was hard slog but more than worth it when we feasted on the view! Transit Hill also great for views.

The Malabar and Kim's lookout walk is a must do for those who like to hike. A round trip of 3 hours at a moderate pace you have pristine lagoon on one side and sheer cliff drop on the other. Watch the Red Tailed Tropic birds fly in pairs during mating season. We do this walk every time we visit... More

Our group was escorted over every part of Lord Howe and although the distances are not great most of the walks are strenuous due to the extreme gradients. The views were always worth it.

I was part of a walking photography group for a week, staying at Pinetrees. Guides were execellent with helping out with cameras, and each day went on a walking track, and were advised where we could turn back if necessary. Views were amazing photographers took some amazing photos
