Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This sculpture of a very oversized was apparently a gift to the town of Kurri Kurri to mark the 40th anniversary of the Austral aluminium smelter. As Kurri Kurri appears to be obsessed with kookaburra's it seems appropriate. That said it sits in the park and overlooks the area. The park is a nice place to visit and the kookaburra is worth a visit and a photo.

I wake up to the sounds of the laughing Kookaburras most mornings so have a soft spot for these lovely birds.
I am not usually fond of big things representing communities as they tend to be rather tacky but this sculpture is rather impressive. Made from scrap sheet aluminum and steel. It stands 4.5 metres high and is rather impressive. The rest of the park is also very beautiful with well tended flower gardens, a rotunda, war memorial, and a tribute to the coal workers of the district.
Well worth a visit as there is plenty of parking and even a handy amenities block.

Australia is a bit ‘obsessed’ with big sculptures, some are great, others not so.
The big Kookaburra is gorgeous, a real landmark in the midst of Kurri Kurri. You can’t miss it, stop over, relax in the lovely little park and take some photos. It’s worth it!

I was at this park recently with my wife. Rotary do so many good things in our world,... and our local community. This park is one of them. The park is very inviting and has seats to sit on and a toilet block too. The Kookaburra sculpture is extraordinary. The amount of work in this sculpture is really something to behold. We sat and admired it... along with the Memorial to the locals who were involved with the War. They too have a commemorative area in this park too.

It is a well designed Kookaburra sculpture in a neat and tidy park thats well maintained. Toilets are always clean here and often see little market events and what not at the park. Located in the middle of the towns main street its not easy to miss.
Also great little bakery across the street. The park is seldomly spoiled by shady characters.

Excellent nurals in the main street. Easy parking. "Flash Back" to the past. Wide streets, typical Australian town.

I have an interest in "big things" around Australia. The Big Kookaburra didn't disappoint. It is set in a small park in the centre of Kurri Kurri. I found out during my stay that Kurri Kurri is known for its murals. There were a couple in and surrounding the park which made the experience even more interesting.

Made a little stop over to grab a coffee. Quiet little town but has all the amenities. The statue of the kookaburra was a surprise.

Look it’s a big Kookaburra! Woohoo, what more could you ask for haha
If you are driving through the area and feel like stretching the legs, it’s a nice place to do it

We drove out of our way to see a Big Kookaburra and were disappointed to see what looked like a Statue of one so no need to waste your time on this one unless you want to see the better tribute statue of the working horse and coal miner next to it.
