Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had an amazing experience here. We came to see the wombats and kangaroos and were not disappointed.

Walk around the fields and river area past the parking about an hour before dark and you’ll be greeted with loads of wombats and kangaroos!

You’ll see loads of wombat burrows along the river so look around and you should see them once they come out for the evening!

We left Sydney at 7am and arrived at Bowral at 9am, Weather was cloudy and light drizzle. We picked up a picnic lunch from Bendooley Estate Larder and proceed to Bendeela camping and picnic area.
There are no picnic tables or anywhere to sit but we had some picnic blankets and the weather cleared up a little. Area is quite tranquil and we had a good picnic.
Being a Thursday area was not crowded.

A wonderful, low-priced, camp ground with lots of green space: however, at peak times it would be hectic and crowded. Amenities are good, there are garbage bins, the waterside location excellent.

A booking is required: easily done online and the only fee is the modest booking fee itself.

The main attraction here though - at least for us - are the wombats. Of an evening many can be sighted and they roam freely, undeterred by campers. Quite a thrill to have one wander past us at our camp table and through our camp site.

This park is a delight. It is enormous so there is plenty of room to find a quiet spot. For a free camp, it is well quipped. Toilets, garbage bins, dump point. But best of all is the nature, The camp is in a valley surrounded by verdant hills. A creek runs adjacent which would be excellent for canoeing or swimming. You are likely to receive nocturnal visitors. On the two occasions I have stayed here I have had visits from wombats scratching their back on my tow bar. I also shared my breakfast with a mob of kangaroos grazing nearby. TV reception is adequate. Optus mobile is non-existent. Vodafone has some signal.

Great camping spot close to Kangaroo Valley and Coastal Beaches.

Would recommend for first time campers and experienced campers. Wildlife encounters almost guaranteed.

Close to Sydney through one of the most scenic drives you will find in NSW.

Soft ground so no need to jack hammer tent pegs in.

Perfect for young kids, teens, adults. Caravans, tents and swags.

No power, limited 4G. Can get busy at peak times but where else doesn’t on the east coast of Australia.

If we had known how nice this place was we would have arranged to come earlier and stay a few more days. As it was the end of the spring school holidays, there were few people camping and we had plenty of room. The campground is very large and divided into two sections, each with a services block, although only the section near the entrance is open outside of school holidays.
We noticed several security guards, which was reassuring on the one hand, but on the other did beg the question as to why is is necessary to have such a large presence. The toilet block and dustbins were also regularly cleaned and emptied respectively.
The river can easily be accessed for fishing and kayaking and there is a nice riverside walk, which reveals numerous species of birds.
Wombats and kangaroos everywhere.
Unfortunately we chose our site badly and had to listen to a loud group of intoxicated lads until well into the night, when I felt we had endured enough and went to tell them to quieten down, which with all due respect, they did.
Overall a great place, to which we aim to return; sadly not possible during the summer school holidays as the whole area was closed due to bushfires.

Bendeela recreation area is a fantastic free camping area in Kangaroo Valley alongside the Kangaroo River. It is a sprawling family friendly site with 3 sections, and several toilet blocks available. It has beautiful grassed camping areas, (not marked) so just drive in and park next to your tent...or park you motorhome or caravan any where you like, it is suitable for all. The road in is easily accessible to all vehicles. The river is ideal for swimming, canoeing or kayaking as well as fishing, and a mobile canoe hire van often comes by during the summer months. Awesome place to stay and watch out for the many wombats that come out in the late afternoon.

We been regulars at this camping and picnic area for many years. Our children grow up here.Running across green fields playing football, or run the bicycles or all activities on the water like swimming, canoeing or just being lazy ...
I love this place ...
Every so and than we are going for drive and end up here just for short walk near river
It’s like being at home
It’s getting more and more popular over the weekend not to mention school holidays to put the tent and enjoying outdoors
And every time I visit I get surprised how many people are there
Obviously very popular
