I took a group of young Aboriginal teens for their first-time experience, and they all had the best time and enjoyed every minute. Every kid had a smile on their face and said they had so much fun and said they would continue surfing, one of my youths said that he felt so peaceful on the water and the environment our children come from in Sydney is chaotic so to hear that he felt that feeling made the day better. So thankful for the Black Dog surf teachers showing our kids what a great skill to have and what a difference surfing can do for your mental health.

We attended the 2 day Master the Whitewash package at Blackdog Surf School and had the best experience. Tammy took great care of us, giving us advance notice of our lesson times and making sure we have the right equipment. We had two different instructors who were both great at explaining the basics. Everyone was able to stand on the board at the end of the session. We liked that the course also included stretching, theory around waves and how to behave amongst other surfers.

Simply amazing! Not just the surf lesson itself, but everything and everyone was so friendly. They remember all names, and after we even got some popcorn. It really felt like coming home again, would almost say it felt like family! Had such a blast and would definitely recommend this surfing school. Thanks Tam & Kirsty for the warm welcome and amazing afternoon.

Personally I found this lesson to be a waste of money. Before we got in the water we were taught the process of surfing, which was fine. However once we got into the water the teaching was completely non-existent. It was really difficult to get out to the instructors (so that they could push us into the waves) due to the tide, which is obviously not their fault, but they kept moving away from us and also completely ignoring us, even at a metre away. We would all be within an arms length and they just couldn't be bothered to grab and guide our boards. When they would eventually grab us, they would just snap at us to get on the board and push us away, not watching to help us improve. I got no guidance whatsoever. They were impatient and unhelpful, and I was a complete beginner so it was really disheartening. Eventually I gave up with the lesson and started catching waves alone, nearer the shore, where I had much more success. They didn't notice that I wasn't going out to them anymore. The people who I was with from my hostel noticed the same things, and I think that we would have been better off just hiring a board and working it out for ourselves.

Super friendly, encouraging, engaging and knowledgeable staff! Surfing is hard. Make sure to get two lessons if you haven’t done it before, and don’t be discouraged if you don’t get the hang of it the first day!

Knowledge two teachers in a good mood! Weather was not perfect but that is nothing the teachers can influence. I am glad we surfed anyway as it was a beginners lesson.
