About
A must-do activity for visitors to Byron Bay! Join us for a truly unique Rainforest & Distillery Tour experience… Our tours kick-off on the balcony of our cellar door where you are greeted with a Gin & Tonic garnished with Native Finger Lime & Aniseed Myrtle. We will then take you on a journey through the story of our distillery, the Brook family farm and the regeneration of the property. During a guided stroll through our subtropical rainforest, see, smell and touch the native rainforest botanicals that are used in our award-winning Brookie’s Byron Dry Gin, while learning the history of the Big Scrub rainforest. Once back in the distillery, you will be lead through an in-depth tasting of our products… and no doubt a few special surprises! Enjoy a fun sensory experience guided by our distillery tour team. The tour duration is around 1 hour and 45 minutes. After the tour, groups are welcomed to relax a little longer and sip on one of our seasonally-crafted cocktails. See you soon!

- Kirsten WMelbourne, Australia26 contributionsGreat experienceWe had a fabulous time (again) at the Cape Byron Distillery. Gorgeous views, great flights of gin and whiskey to taste, lovely staff. Grab some platter foods out of the fridge, order a cocktail before your tasting flights and sit for a bit. Koalas an extra bonus.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 30 December 2023
- Leigh N3 contributionsGin AND KoalasFabulous afternoon spent at the distillery and in the rainforest. The story of the distillery evolution is inspiring - if only we had more Mr & Mrs Brookies in the world..not to mention the beautiful gin - dry is our fave but there’s one for every taste. Our host was delightful, so relaxed and informative. Fantastic way to learn more about this wonderful company. And the wild Koalas in the car park were the icing on the cake!Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 March 2024
- María D2 contributionsThe best place to enjoy with friendsI did the rainforest tour and tasting with 4 more friends. We enjoyed it so so much. The place is amazing, the rainforest views and the drinks. My highlight was the tour and how friendly and knowledgeable Babs is. She is simply amazing, makes you travel in time, and you learn not only the history of the place, but nature and how gin and whisky is distilled and always with the kindest smile. Makes it so much fun, Definitely recommend the distillery and the rainforest tour. Thanks!!Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 29 July 2024

We had an amazing experience touring the rainforest and distillery, Claudia our guide told the story of how the property evolved from a barren paddock into a thriving rainforest. The range of gins are amazing and we enjoyed our cocktails on the outdoor deck. Highly recommend

Our group of 8 couples did the Gin tasting experience presented by Alex. She was very knowledgeable, professional and fun at the same time. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting experience and stayed on until closing time to have one of their many delicious cocktails on offer. The cocktail staff were excellent.
I would thoroughly recommend this experience.

Brookies Gin is my favourite so I was really looking forward to visiting the Distillery.
My Sister and I booked the Guided Tasting Session and were so impressed with the welcome we received from the staff and the information they gave us about each of the Gins.
Thank you everyone for your kindness x

We did the 2pm tour Approx. 2 hrs and it was a great experience even in the rain in the rainforest.
Make sure you book as the tours are always full.
Lots of informative information on the owners and how it was all started and I didn’t know that it was the Brookfarm muesli, macadamia nuts, bars, etc that they first started so that was a bonus when it came to shopping for gin we also got so many nut mixes and macadamia nuts and macadamia nut oil.

The staff who worked @ distillery last Sunday 16/2 - may need to rethink strategy as to what your “cellar door” actually means.
I visited last year had a fab experience and another girly weekend away, ready sing their praises with great views/fabulous gin (note even though had to pay for pleasure to sample) and convinced my mates to stop by on way to a shopping spree at Bangalow shops.
Don’t bother. The lowest point of our weekend right here for terrible customer service.
A a fab cocktail (at Elements of Byron Bay resort - G&T bar - during our stay) with Cape Byron’s ink gin / Brookies gin from our stay, we decided to visit Cape Byron distillery.
I sang their praises .. until my friends were turned away last Sunday from the staff working there.
ready to spend without even needing a taste test (If only the staff had asked ) .. what Cellar door turns away customers just because we were spontaneous given our tight schedule and didn’t book for small group (4 only looking to buy products)
Surely they’d have more than one staff running the show for walk-ins ?
4 of my 8 mates looking to buy while the others waited and enjoy atmosphere / nice vineyard views and artefacts/history at distillery.
It’s like turning away 5 customers willing to queue and wait @ maccas ?! Crazy customer service.
Unfortunately, I will be @ Byron again later this year with my husband.
This will NOT be a must visit sadly and I will not ever recommend again. Sadly, my other 9 friends have boycotted all their products and telling all their friends. Sad outcome.

Hi Vescence,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback & to share your experience.
I am very sorry to hear your second visit to the distillery didn’t meet your expectations. I hope this response will help clarify what we do at the cellar door.
Our distillery & cellar door focuses on tours & tasting and as we are a small family owned distillery set amongst our working macadamia & rainforest farm (with very limited road access!). Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity nor space to run as a walk-in cellar door and manage this through 'appointment only'. We try to clearly communicate this through the sign at the distillery's entrance and all through our website and communication. As you saw, it’s a beautiful space for us to talk about rainforest regeneration, what we do here & for people to taste Brookie’s.
The distillery and rainforest tour gives you the ability to taste, smell, see, experience the botanicals that go into making Brookie’s & see the beautiful rainforest that was regenerated on the property. If people don’t have time for a tour, tasting flights are a great option & we pride ourselves in taking the time with each person to discuss the gin & the rainforest. We are very mindful of the space and the fact that we have limited capacity and in this instance, we were purely unable to accept any additional walk-ins.
Our focus is on talking to each customer & also due to the narrow driveway, limited car parks and licensing – we are on 'appointment only'. This is communicated on our website, social media & on signage at the farm’s gate. Making an appointment means that you would need to book a tour via our website or give us a call to organise a time for the tasting experience we offer.
Our cellar door focus is on a quality experience & on the Big Scrub education and by making an appointment, we follow our license requirements and can make sure we have the resources to accommodate customers.
In addition, please note that Ink Gin is produced by our friends at Husk Distillery on the Tweed Coast.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. My email is pauline@capebyrondistillery.com or call us on 02 6684 7961 and we would be happy to help clarify.
Kind Regards,
Pauline

The property is not well signed, and your GPS may not work perfectly as this location has limited phone reception. I have a photo of the sign at the top of the road as a point of reference. You need to then follow your nose down to the distillery itself - just continue straight down the hill. Its a fairly industrial car park entrance with a shed on your left. The road is slim, so drive slowly. The internals of the property are authentically Byron - the business is happy for you to see and smell everything that goes into their gin. They keep true to traditions and art of distillation whilst creating spirits that capture and showcase the uniqueness of where their ingredients come from (all around the area). Whilst the service was good, we were told we needed to book an appointment to come for a drink. The method was to call just prior to coming down the driveway - and they are compliant with their license. No biggy, but, I was made to feel like I shouldnt have been there. Was quite strange. Overall, do treat yourself to a gin and the tour. The tour lets you look in more depth about where the ingredients come from - its worth it.

A bit off the main road but very close to The Farm this little distillery is a good opportunity for an afternoon cocktail.
