Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful beach with fine, white sand and blue waters. There is parking in the road for a fee: AUD 4 per hour. Maximum parking 4 hours. We visited Wategos Beach after lunch on 27 January, 1 day after Australia Day. The beach was not very crowded being a working day. The view was superb.

Lovely walking to the Lighthouse watching dolphins and whales and then going for a swim at Watego's Beach. The water is very clear and the waves are gentle enough to feel very safe. It's a lovely wide sandy beach. Then walk back to Byron along the wonderful walking path.

This was by far my favourite beach in Byron. I would imagine later in the day during busy periods parking could be a challenge here but we had no issues. It really didn’t feel that busy at all. Beautiful water, peaceful and relaxing

Best beach in Bryon I say!
If you drive, try go early in the day to beat the crowds for parking. Or be prepared to have a little walk from your car.
All the parking there now you have to pay for. Best thing is to remember your licence plate. Just park up, pack up your stuff and then walk down towards the beach where they have the pay machines.
Toilets and BBQ area down at the beach.
Nice clean water.
Luscious white sand. Always clean and free from rubbish.
A few rocks at times at one end.
Quite popular with long boarders.
Slightly sheltered beach.
Just divine views!

Wategos Beach .. is another beautiful , hidden away Byron Bay beach
I visited Wategos Beach a few different times during 2022
Each time .. this mostly sandy beach , was busy with surf swimming & sunbathing
Off the beach are plenty of beautiful views
There's only one road into the cove Wategos Beach sits in
From the far end of Wategos Beach .. there's a hill track up to the scenic views from the Cape Byron Lighthouse
Above the beach , there’s a small park area .. with barbecue facilities & a public toilet
The limited street parking , is paid parking

Wategos may not be the main beach in Byron Bay but it is very lovely. It’s a classic Australian surf beach with rolling waves and a long crescent-shaped stretch of almost white sand.
It is a relatively sheltered beach, making it a good choice for swimming. There is some shade on the beach
There are basic facilities including changing rooms, showers and toilets. However there are no lifeguards and street parking is metered and in any case, is extremely limited.
Instead, we walked in from The Pass Beach. It’s paid parking here too but at least there’s a large carpark and lots of space. The walk up and over the headland starts from Palm Valley (alongside the carpark) and is definitely a challenging and steep path in the summer. However its a good way to work up a sweat before you dive into the waves at the other end and on the plus side, you get some absolutely lovely views along the way.

What an overall fantastic experience. I said experience as it was not only great food and great atmosphere the staff were absolutely amazing. The dedication and knowledge of the staff with their food and wine was exceptional. The whole dinner was 5 star I will definitely be recommending it to friends and family. Very satisfied customer.

One of the most serene places I've had the pleasure at being at. Just a 10min walk from Bryon Bay main beach towards the lighthouse & you'd think you'd died & gone to heaven.
Great place to sit & watch the leaner surfers & have a dip.

What an awesome place for a wedding. We had never been to Byron before but it was our daughters and fiancé’s choice to get married there. Could not have thought of a more idyllic location for them to get married. They definitely picked an amazing place. Truely memorable

We rode to Watgos from our hotel in Byron on a very warm day. Once we arrived, we scaled the windy, undulating path to the beach, which was outstanding. A great beach for adults and kids with shady spots, fresh coffee and drinks from the nearby stand and showers and toiltes provided. One of Byron's best beach spots.

I know parking is an ongoing issue here, and unfortunately I will be there on a weekend during summer holiday. However I had plans to go late in the afternoon, around 3 or 4. Does the beach (or rather parking lot) tend to clear up by then or do people usually stay all day? Thanks in advance!

Hard to say, if it's a hot day people will stay long, it doesn't get dark until about 8pm in Summer.
