It is great to see the historic bridge still standing. It is a reminder of the days of Paddle Steamers on the Barwon River.
Well worth the visit

Obviously not as significant as the fish traps but worth a visit if you are in Bre. A lot of birds live on the bridge and fly up noisily as you walk across it. Gives a nice view of the Barwon river. There are toilets at the nearby picnic area.

It was good to get out of the car, have a walk over the bridge and understand how it works. Amazing technology of 1888.

If bridges are really your thing, then you won't be disappointed by this one.It has everything you want to see- riverbanks, railings, bits of an old road, and some kind of drawbridge- type of system for what looks like lifting up the middle part. Oh yeah! You won't be sorry you took the time to walk to the middle and soak up the serenity of the pleasant leafy surroundings. To get there, you will have to travel across some flat, dusty, wide-open landscapes, and standing on this bridge you'll be like, "Yep- here we are in the Australian Outback" (whatever that actually is). Some crazy thrill-seekers out there would probably want to actually swim in the river itself, but really the bridge is the reason to be there, and who knows what trees are hidden under the surface of the khaki-coloured water.
Don't just walk across it- walk back again! You won't regret it.

It’s not marked but you can park where a path goes towards the bridge, or turn left at the boat ramp sign and follow the dirt road to a riverside park or even drive under the new bridge to park close to the old.
