Did you know that the Back O Bourke Visitor Information & Exhibition Centre is the place of Outback Legends! Barefoot Harry, Captain Starlight, the Camel traders, WWI Prisoners of War, Charles Bean the man behind the Australian War Memorial make up part of the colourful collection of people and their stories. Your 2-day pass will take you on an intriguing journey and don’t forget the words of a once famous resident of Bourke, Henry Lawson, and 'If you know Bourke, you know Australia'. I can recommend the information centre at Bourke. They are a wealth of information and the staff are very helpful. The cafe is very reasonably priced and cater for those who are gluten intolerant.
There's plenty of parking and also lots of interesting sculptures to wander around.

Essential viewing which will give you a fantastic insight into the amazing history of Bourke and its region. Make sure you take the time, allow an hour to go through the very interesting and professionally presented multi media presentations and wall exhibits. Bourke really has the most incredible history.

A must see experience in Bourke. Ticket valid for 2 days which is great, as there is a lot of information to take in throughout the exhibit. Fascinating history and helpful staff. We were there on a Sunday, and literally nothing else in town was open except the Spar supermarket

Wonderful facility providing a great overview of the history of Bourke and surrounds. Need a few hours to do it justice, nice cafe and very friendly staff throughout the centre.

Firstly, the visitor information centre has amazing car park area... and some of it is even undercover for Victorians, like myself, that may die from heat stroke if it was hot. :)
The information centre is beautifully laid out. There is a cafe here that has really amazing coffee too! The staff are somewhat helpful too. :) I will say somewhat because they have your best interests at heart... I had 1.5 hours before close to go through, and the young lady said I would never get through it all. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes the next day... I think I would have made it if I tried...but I followed her advice. She meant well though.. and I found out the next day that the ticket lasts for two days...so I should have started the tour. :) Oh well... Lesson learned!Â
When I paid to go into the exhibition, the first room you enter is the theatre and there is the MOST amazing video to watch. I could have watched that a few times... I loved it. The information in the centre is also really outstanding... so much information is beautifully presented. This centre is clearly still being worked on because the amphitheatre at the rear has nothing in it. There are some sculptures out in the gardens that are stunning too.Â
I adored this centre and would recommend it to anyone! It has to be on your list of things to see.Â

We arrived in Bourke around 11 am on a Sunday morning. I was hungry and disappointed when I asked for a pie at the cafe and was told there were none left. The lady at the information desk was extremely helpful but when she told me she enjoyed living in Bourke because everything closed down at 12 on a Sunday it left me feeling a bit flat. After when we went in to the town centre and everything was closed it felt like a ghost town. I would have thought that a town that promotes tourism so well could have at least stayed open on a Sunday.

This really is the essential first port of call when beginning an exploration of Bourke and the surrounding region. An excellent facility, with tourist information, a very interesting exhibition, a great cafe, landscaped gardens and clean toilets. The history of this region and the central part it played in establishing the Austrslian ifentity really shines through. First class.

Interesting and modern display but a bit disjointed, in lovely setting and good cafe. Would have been good if the trees were labelled.

Excellent visitor information centre, easily laid out and easy to walk through, so much to read and take in, visually it has a great vibe and was well worth the time spent. We were so fortunate to have Paul Roe take us through and he identified Many points of interest that may have been overlooked. The detail is stunning. Lovely surrounds, with a little cafe providing good food.

Called in this morning ready to have morning tea and then view the exhibition. Apparently the cafe is closed Monday and Tuesday. This is amazing for Bourke's major attraction. Is there a sensible explanation for this arrangement?
Thanks goodness the bakery in town has good coffee.

Considering Bourke is a relatively small town I guess they feel as entitled as other people to have a couple of days off.
We visited on the weekend so we were not aware they were closed Monday & Tuesday.
Unfortunately you missed a great display of the history of the area.
Drop in another time, it's well worth the visit.
Sorry you were not able to go. We just loved it.

What are the admission prices and can it be combined with other attractions.

We paid $101 for 2 concessions which gave us entry to the Back 'o Bourke exhibition, the outback show and the paddle steamer ride which leaves from Kidman Camp. I don't know what the individual costs for each activity are. Depends on what interests you. The exhibition is great and you can revisit it with the combined ticket. It's quite extensive. The outback show isn't on every day and was interesting, informative with some humour thrown in. We enjoyed it but it's not a MUST see. The paddle steamer ride is like most others but it was relaxing and informative. Enjoy

we went on the boat at 3-4pm then came back and was able to come back the next day to see everything we wanted to see.
its worth it and the Jandra was really amazing
