Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Shut the Gate winery was a real delight, from the great range of food to choose from, to the cosy ambience, and the stories behind the beautiful wine labels. We really enjoyed our lunch here and left happy with some purchases from the well stocked shop. Definitely worth a visit.

There is times on your travels when a person not the place make the difference, thjis was one of those occassions. I apologise but I can not remember his name however he had a great moustache. We felt welcome from the time we stepped through the door and what a great knowledge of the product. We were not planning on staying however, how could we not. Wine, a platter and Boules.

After reading an article in the Snowy Mountains Magazine we decided to stop on our way back from Thredbo. The range of products was enthralling. We bought real free range eggs, dips that were to die for (best Taramasalta ever), pre-cooked and packaged meals that were better than I could make and absolutely delicious. I have never had such a tasty Thai red curry. I will be pre-ordering for the family when we return for the September school holidays.

We stopped here for some wonderful quality items from their providore store and for a wine tasting. The wines were from the Clare Valley but the red grape varieties were not the usual and were from the more obscure but interesting grape varieties from Italy and Spain. I bought a few and they still tasted good when I got home (which is not always the case :)).

Such a pleasant surprise. Hidden behind an old, meticulously tended hedge is a delightful garden with a walkway, fountain and established trees. Select your own picnic and sample the wines- what better way to spend a summer’s day. Inside, leather lounges and a fire - looks perfect for a winter’s day. Wonderful staff made the visit all the more pleasant.

What a lovely stop - we picked up a brochure for wine tasting and headed there on a whim... turned out to be a great decision! A cosy lounge area, lots of interesting sweets and savouries at the providore, and very welcoming and knowledgeable ladies at the cellar door. Some different wine varieties as well as the usuals, we were also delivered a cheese and cracker platter during our tasting. We left with a few of our favourites, and some treats for the kids, and fully intend to stop in again on our way out in a few days time. Thank you!

We stopped in here after a day on the slopes and it was just perfect. We purchased a bottle of Shut the Gate Pinot noir which is made on Clare Valley grapes (and was very good) and took up the ‘create your own’ food platter option. We had a choice of a variety of smoked and cured meats from Barossa and cheeses from Milliwa and beyond as well as crackers and breads - simply grab your selection, a board and cheese knife and settle in. That day we sat outside in the garden as it was quite warm but could have sat inside on one of the lounges by the fire. The staff are friendly and helpful. Wine tasting is also available. This really is a hidden gem and well worth the visit!

We stop here every year on the way to the snow, and it’s consistently awesome! The hosts are so knowledgeable and welcoming, and the wines are always great. We always leave with a few new cases of wine ❤️

hmmm, cold climate wines, this not clare valley wines to compare with. No tasting notes. oil burners in wine bar inhibit tasting and aromas.... because the septic tank was on the blink and the entire place was whiffy. disappointing. not to my standard as a winery. friendly staff.
