Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ballina players is an amateur theatre in Ballina. The shows are a mix of drama & musicals. In my opinion, the theatre has all round appeal & is the best that Ballina has to offer in live theatre

Went to watch a friends child perform and was surprised at the great standard of the production. It was a fabulous night out and would recommend the theatre company. I intend to see more productions.

Talented local people, semi-professional productions. I saw Oliver and Forbidden Planet (Musicals) and Patrick Pearse Motel (farce) all really well done, totally engaging and enjoyable. Reasonable price for a good night out. They have a bar and snacks too. Live entertainment at its best.

We've been to the Ballina Players many times over the past few years. As a community-based amateur theatre group you may not expect the highest quality, but there you would be wrong.

We have enjoyed performances as diverse as Sound of Music, Oliver, The King and I, Miss Saigon and during school holidays we once saw a children's performance of Aladdin. Even the so called kids show was still really good. There is no doubt plenty of talent, which they nurture here.

The theatre holds about 3-4 events per year, so plenty of time for rehearsals, and it shows. The venue is purpose built, with a sunken orchestra pit, proper staging, lighting and usually, audio. The audience is seated at tables - cabaret style. If going as a couple we would recommend tables K or L and seats 3 and 6. That way you are together, facing directly at the performers. it's a typical small town - if you don't know the other people at your table when you arrive, you will by the time you leave.

In 2016, the prices for adults at musicals are $30 or $25 for plays. There are concessions and discounts for RSL members. Bookings on-line are fee free. Bookings at Just Funkin Music or by phone have a small fee. You can get physical tickets or have them left at the door. We normally pick them up at the door (nothing to lose).

Most events commence at 8pm sharp, with seating available 30 minutes earlier and the full bar opening at 7pm. Don't be late because there is a lockout period. You won't want to miss it. There are usually a couple of matinee performances, if you wanted to bring the kids.

Hint: They are a non profit group and will have a raffle - bring along some gold coins or $5 notes. The donated prizes are pretty good and the money's going to a great community organisation. One night we won - very cool bottle of red into the cellar (temporarily). While they often have nibbles at the tables, they don't do meals - we normally stop by the Ballina RSL on the way for dinner which makes a really lovely night of dining, entertainment and drinks without making too big a dent in the budget.

In 2016 the list of performances includes: Return to Forbidden Planet, The Patrick Pearse Motel, the best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Shrek.

If you're new to the Ballina area, or just passing through, we would recommend checking out the Players schedule. We've always had a wonderful time. Far more professional than amateur in our opinion.
