Picturesque with plenty to do

We have had a lovely time in Cornwall, particularly the bustling and picturesque Mevagissey; we found ourselves spending a lot of time there. Highlights were mussels at the Harbour Tavern, pasties from The Cornish Bakery, takeout scallops and fish and chips, and crabbing. But the absolute highlight was our wonderful kayak tour with Meva Kayak Tours from the East Harbour.

One of my favourite places in the world

One of my favourite places in the world. Don't come to Cornwall very often, but always have to fit in a visit to Mevagissey.

I don't think they want us there
Jul. 2021 • Family
Mevagissey is a pretty village with some nice shops, cafes and restaurants. We ate some really nice pasties, visited the model railway with friendly staff, looked at the free aquarium and went to Fatface where the staff were lovely.
However, it was really spoilt by the many signs telling us what to do and not to do: don't sit on the wall, return your rubbish to the shop, don't exercise dogs! Also you have to pay 50p for the toilet. There were two other toilets one which had yet another sign telling us that it has been closed for 8 years. Why do we need to know that? Just remove the signs. We left feeling like we shouldn't have visited. You can't have it both ways - generate lots of money from tourism but not welcome visitors. We have visited many Cornish villages this week and never felt unwelcome.
Perhaps the locals have had some bad experiences but how come other villages don't feel the need to make us feel so bad?

Beautiful

Mevagissey is a typical cornish harbour with all the cornish charm. Lots of little shops to browse around and lovely eateries.

Dodge the car in such a lovely place

It is a beautiful port and some great places to walk and eat and boat trips, but play dodgems with the traffic is horrendous!

Nice on a sunny day but not if you want a loo!

Large car park at entrance to town but didn't seem to be very suitable for Motorhomes so glad we came by bus. Enjoyed our walk around the harbour and impressed by the number of seats around the harbour, never enough though. Lovely Fish & Chips from Fishermen's Chippy. The lack of toilets a real issue. On one quay they appear to brag that they had been closed for over 8 years. The other quay had a toilet block @ 50p. The main problem was the toilets en route from the coach drop off/ main car park, the ladies toilets were closed because of a landslide. I don't know how recent that happened but hopefully it will be rectified in less than 8 years. I was so desperate I used the gents - these could easily be made unisex by closing off the urinals temporarily. People judge towns by their toilet facilites as they are a basic human need!

Playing packman with idiot tourists on the streets of Mevagissey.
Jun. 2021
There should be one road in one road out for trade purposes only and all other traffic banned. On my visit I spent more time avoiding getting run down by the idiot tourists who were too lazy to use the car parks 7 minutes walk away than I did looking round the village.

Expensive visit.

Nice little wonder around the harbour on a dull day. The harbour wall is long so you can have a good saunter around it. Lots of boats to see we even saw a team of people on body boards paddling across the opening to the harbour.

Shockingly It is 50p though to use the public toilets and there is a volunteer standing outside to make sure you don’t go for free. We paid £7 for a days parking here but wish we had carried driving on a little further than the first car park we came too. You can drive up the harbour and park for cheap, there’s also other long stay car parks much cheaper. Didn’t do a whole day. Just shops and walking! Had a coffee and cake but then left.
Found it expensive in my opinion.
