We took our 3 year old granddaughter to the Staircase house one wet and windy Saturday recently. Although some of the items were a little high for her she had an excellent time with some of the interactive exhibits. I thought we had only been in the museum for about 20 minutes but in fact it had taken us 90... More

Visited with my wife. We received a very warm welcome and were introduced to the layout of the building. We really enjoyed wandering from room to room looking at the exhibits from strawberry recording studios to local history. Well worth a visit.

Although a small space thought had gone in to making the place accessible although floors are wonky. The themed rooms wre put together well to showcase period items (medaeval pottery in setting was personal favourite. Audio tour content was a bit condescending Visit the lovely glazed covered market whilst in town. Shame that Stockports historic centre, cobbled streets and viaduct... More

I felt it was a bit crazy you have to pay to go in but I really liked the old house especially the kitchen and barn.

I was pleased there was an audio handset included in the price as things come to life a bit more with some explanation. The floors inside are very uneven so you do need to watch your step and the walls in some places you start to wonder what is keeping them up. Given it is a relatively recent restoration I... More

ok for over 18s but not really very family friendly, little interesting bits for the kids but not perfect for a family friendly day out.

The staircase house is the most ancient house in Stockport; it has been converted into a small museum. Through the various rooms one learns about the life style of the people who lived in the house in the past four hundreds years. It is very well organised with an audio system to provide information and plenty of activities to keep... More

The "oldest townhouse in Stockport" has been carefully renovated and made safe, with excellent lift and stairs, but retains a lot of the old material as it was, with "wonky" floors and patched walls. You get to experience the atmosphere of the place and examine the exhibits. There are puzzles...why do the dining room doors both go into bedrooms? why... More

For an afternoon of free fun with little ones you can't go wrong with Staircase Museum. A whole floor of family dedicated space with so many different toys and activities, we easily spent an hour and a half there and could have stayed longer. Colouring, puppets, dressing up, play shop, shadow wall, displays of the natural world, ancient Egypt and... More
