We got married in the Council Chambers which was perfect for our Steampunk themed wedding. The pics show the setting better than I can describe, but we loved it, it was just the right amount of quirky and posh for us while retaining the intimacy we wanted. I have mobility issues and the staff were so wonderful in literally running... More

Hadn't been to the refurbished market in years. Stalls are great! Get your glasses mended; fruit and veg; meat and sweets; needles and cotton and something to read. All top quality produce with friendly service. I'm going back: Tuesday,Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

the town hall is worth visiting especially for devotees of Edwardian design ......... the ballroom with its chandeliers and original pipe organ is a classical example of civic opulence and is often used for dancing and other events. the venue is easily located on the a6 just south of the town centre.

I have been to this charismatic lovely building many time over many years for many different reasons. I used to work in function catering so have been involved in catering for up to 500 guests at a time which makes the great hall look magnificent with many flowers & dressed dinning tables. A useless piece of information is the top... More

A lovely ballroom, which on 20 March 2015 was used to host the 50+ Road Show. I thoroughly enjoyed the dancercise session organised by LifeLeisure.

This must be one of the most beautiful town halls in England. Built in the early 1900's its nickname is "The Wedding Cake" because of its ornate architecture. The ballroom ceiling is magnificent, lavishly decorated and a real eye-catcher. It also has an organ which rises majestically from below when required for the many musical events held there. Rooms leading... More
