Wonderful walk!

Visited in January, we had a lovely 6.5 mile walk around the forest. Plenty of parking. There are toilets but these are closed during winter. There are many paths to choose from... read more

One for all nature lovers and easily accessing from the M4 or A4 roads but this is not for cars park up in the forest and just get walking...always something to admire with stunning natural colours that change through the year...get a picnic and enjoy...oh and the bird song particularly in the early morning ...a true National asset

Early in the morning to see the best of the forest, If you want to visit later start at the picnic/barbecue area which does get busy at weekends, in the summer, but a 5 minute walk takes you deep into the quiet areas. Unfortunately dog walkers do not tend to pick up here so stay on the paths..Its a great... More

Visited in January, we had a lovely 6.5 mile walk around the forest. Plenty of parking. There are toilets but these are closed during winter. There are many paths to choose from. We seemed to have the forest to ourselves at times. Lots of bird life and we saw a couple of deer.

We live near Marlborough so decided to go on a wintry walk and it is great as the forest has paths to walk on which are quite wide and you can generally explore the forest too. It also has big open spaces which we have used In the past with a big group of friends and played cricket or football... More

Lovely setting, somewhat spoilt by a large number of seasonal pitches which have taken some of the best places. The management and staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful

We regularly visit Savernake forest for enjoying walks & observing the wild life, deer roam freely through here. The are plenty of places to picnic & a narrow road passed through the middle, north to south. This is definitely the place to chill out at any time you need it.

We struggled to find the start point and parking at first as not clear to us from web. Entrance is off the Matlborough Burbage road. Autumn Sunday afternoon and lots of people, but once we started walking, plenty of space

We parked next to Postern hill campsite owned by the Forestry Commission and there was plenty of spaces this Sunday morning, and indeed later into the afternoon. We spent two hours wandering about - take boots as it is muddy in places - and we were amazed at how few people ventured around. The trees had their autumn hues and... More

I have been at this campsite for 2 very enjoyable years but recently the management has changed mid season. My first meeting with the new management was aggressive to say the least. He came marching up to me saying that a lot of the agreements I had with the previous management were now not applicable. When I explained that I... More

This is a fantastic forest for, walking, running, tree climbing, cycling alone tracks, cycling off tracks for kids, rope swings, football on uneven ground, frisbee, pick-nicks, dog walking, deer spotting, getting lost etc. This is a huge forest that isn't too hilly with interesting history to it's planting pattern but you wont notice that when you are in it.
