We were staying at the nearby campsite, and decided to walk into Devizes, along the canal. The locks are quite a sight, and feat of engineering. Lovely Winter scenery along the way, and the volunteers from the Canal and River Trust were on hand with lots of information. Lots of photo opportunities. Devizes is well worth a visit, too.

Excellent location for dog walking. Ample parking with a nearby cafe which sells beverages, cakes and snacks and is dog friendly both inside and out.

The Caen Hill Locks at Devizes are almost a highlight of a canal walk. And it was great to see a man actually using the locks to allow his canal further up. I found it very enlightening and my younger siblings definitely seemed intrigued. It was lovely to see that a viable part of English history is still in use... More

Usually many boats to watch negotiating one of the 7 wonders of the inland waterways, but still a great walk on even surface up into the centre of Devizes, via the Wharf centre to the many shops, eating places and attractions.

Quite a feat of engineering. We showed it to some relatives who visited last month. Also a nice area for walking. We tend to cycle along the canal, past the locks, and then stop at the little cafe on top.

The renowned flight of locks at Caen Hill is quite amazing. One wonders exactly why anyone would think of taking a canal down such a steep gradient - and then marvel at the task of making it work! I have visited many times; bringing with me friends who have come to see us and everyone enjoys seeing the locks working,... More

Great steep locks. Amaizing feet of engineering. We visit here often as only live ten miles away. It's a lovely walk from the centre of Devizes but there is also a car park signposted on the road from Devizes to Melksham. Also good for blackberries.
