A wonderful day led by David Dawson, Museum Director, starting with an introduction to the many fine and surprising treasures from the Neothithic period. Followed by a drive to a detailed walk through the landscape extending beyond Stonehenge itself, to consider the importance of the other henges, barrows and cursors. An excellent tour, and good food too.

For a better understanding of the wonderful archaeology and history of the Salisbury Plain area, this is the place. Clear, modern displays which are not dumbed down and not jargonistic. Very keen, helpful and well-informed staff, many of whome are volunteers, and who are clearly very proud of the museum and of Devizes. Activities for kids, and tours for adults... More

Brilliant layout. Floors were a little unstable for client with walking sticks but other than that staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful! Was given a full explanation of the layout on arrival and discounted for carer. Lots to see, we were about 1 hour and still didn't see all of it.

Thank you for your review - am pleased that you enjoyed your visit. Our museum is a historic building - mostly 200 years old - so the floors are indeed a little uneven! We have 25 floor levels in the building so working out where to insert a lift so that it would reach all the public areas of the... More

Never visited this before. It's so interesting. There are some fascinating artefacts from Stonehenge and other local areas. And written posters, cards etc are on each exhibit. Such a lot of info to remember. There is also a section with the history of the town. Yet another fascinating, fun filled area full of info about the companies and trades. There... More

I liked the idiosyncratic nature of the Wiltshire museum. It felt individual, local and 'right sized'. The staff who run it are very friendly and I picked up some great birthday presents in the shop!

An extraordinary collection of archaeological finds from the county. Well presented and plenty of interesting information. Interactive stuff for younger visitors. I recommend a visit after seeing Avebury.

I've wanted to go here for a long time, and was a little giddy to finally visit. Wonderful museum, with an absolute heap of stunningly beautiful and interesting archaeology. Well designed: modern and child-friendly without being overly silly/plasticy like some museums. The local history sections weren't something I planned to visit, but again were delightful and I spent longer than... More

i grew up in devizes in the 1950's and paid the town a visit this week re-visiting the museum after a gap of 40 years ...expecting it to be a bit old fashioned and stuffy i was treated to a clean bright series of exhibition rooms full of fascinating items ranging from the pre-historic wiltshire up to more recent times... I have been to devizes museum a couple of times and for a small town museum it has a host of exhibits. Really worth a visit for relatives visiting on a rainy day and children.

We visited the museum with our two grandchildren (8 and 11) They were delighted to follow the footprints, mark up their cards, and play with the exhibits. They particularly liked the fossil dig, and dressing up in Elizabethan clothes. On the way down, they discovered two friendly ladies in the conference room - with massive chocolate cakes - what more... More
