The region’s top championship course designed by Dave Thomas was recently rated ‘5 Stars- Brilliant’ by Today’s Golfer Undercover Review Team. Measuring 7,317 yards from the championship tees and always superbly presented the course provides a great day out for both scratch and occasional golfers. The former estate farmhouse, dating from the 18th century, has been lovingly converted into a superb Clubhouse with exceptional facilities and an informal, relaxed atmosphere.

Golf course is difficult, but the food - £10 for a crappy Bowood club sandwich which was barely edible and cheapest bottle of red wine £20 which is a ripoff, play golf, slowly, over five hours and then eat elsewhere is my suggestion.

Very nice food, my tuna sandwich with fries was a lovely lunch. Friends had pasta, or sandwiches like me, all were impressed. The service was quite good, but not very friendly. But the surroundings were quite tired and dated, and it s a fairly large space so with few people in for lunch it was very quiet. Some music would... More

We booked the winter special of £120 for a fourball which included a meal and a pint. Excellent value if you want to try a good quality testing course. It's not for the faint hearted with some good testing holes and long par 5s. Wintertime carry bags or trolleys with hedgehog wheels are a requirement. Excellent facilities, great club house... More

Attending a charity lunch each month at Bowood is generally enjoyable and very informative with good food to sample. Now since the appointment of the new manager Marc together with an excellent chef the lunches have become the hot topic!! Our Parma Ham covered Hake sitting on butternut squash purée with coconut served with broccoli was quite the best lunch... More

We played here yesterday after wanting to play for absolutely ages. The course is absolutely beautiful but at 6000 yards a word of warning to any lady golfers - it is brutal!!! You need a great drive followed by an amazing 2nd shot which I didn't have. Par 3's are 200 yards long surrounded by bunkers. The rain pounded down... More

Spent a lovely few hours in the library with friends having a cream tea, looking out onto the golf course and woodland you couldn't ask for nicer scenery, the hotel is very clean and comfortable and a nice atmosphere to sit and enjoy the views, it was let down by the traditional cream tea we ordered, it came with 3... Great venue, good food, friendly staff. They even let me have a play on a golf buggy! We were in amongst the golfers but they were tolerant of us as we were of their tailored shorts!

3rd time played here, course is nicely laid out, suits a good driver of ball and a good second shot is needed. I used most of clubs in my bag. Some good dog legs where you can try and fade draw the ball. Greens were really quick and took some reading. Our 2 ball was held up by 2 lots... More

The golf course is a great challenge well presented, and the greens are consistant, I would adise the use of a buggy or electric trolly if you are not fully fit, it is deceptively hilly, and even using an electric trolly can be quite tiring. Would like to play this course again now I know its layout, accuracy is a... More
