Visiting the Labrang Monastery was the highlight of our trip. The monastery takes up a whole part of town of Xiàhé and is very impressive. While we also visited monasteries in Tibet, this one feels much more accessible. You can freely walk around the monastery...More

We came on a festival day and it was buzzing with locals in traditional clothes praying, donating and some just watching. It was quite a sight! There’s also an English speaking guide which starts at 10:45 everyday - make sure you catch that to get...More

The only reason to come to this town is to visit the Monastery, which is pretty interesting, but not that special.

It's a bit tricky to get to Xiahe, with only a bus service connecting either Lanzhou or Xining about 4-5 hours away. Yet it's well worth coming to see the monastery on the edge of Tibet. The monastery is free to visit, but you probably...More
