Unravelling Pennsylvania History

I enjoy museums and this one is no different. I think the variety here is fantastic and helps one understand the uniqueness of Pennsylvania. Visit and decide for yourself.

This is a good museum. There's displays of old stuff, like refrigerators from the 1940's, - stuff from not that long ago, maybe 40 years ago, now forgotten - yet, now remembered, at this museum. It doesn't have all those placards to read like most museums - it has things to look at! This is a museum well worth spending... More

The museum put together a fantastic event for kids with the costume theme. Their advertising efforts paid off with participation but totally overwhelmed what they could really handle. They had special visitors (reptiles) the kids could see and touch. They also had a nice storytelling station and one of the highlights was the story in the planetarium. The exhibits are... More

I have never heard of this museum, so I did not expect a lot. I was impressed by the variety of artifacts on display. I especially liked seeing an actual stage coach and other modes of transportation from the same time period. I had often read books with descriptions of them, There is something for everyone here.

Just because you've been there before doesn't mean you've seen it all. Displays are changed as well as themes. An enjoyable time can be had for all ages. There are hands on displays for young children and staff available to answer questions.

I would go to this museum as a kid with my grandparents. The still life animals cases are very cool to see. The mastodon bones were found near my family cabin...worth seeing. There is even a planetarium upstairs. It could use a renovation though.

After a fabulous night at Hershey Park on Friday, we were looking for a way to spend a nice, Fall Saturday afternoon. I discovered the State Museum of PA when I did a search for things to do in the Harrisburg area. I will be honest, I was not expecting much. However, this museum has it all. Three floors of... More

We have been to the Museum 3 years in a row for their homeschool day. My kids absolutely love the Museum and ask to go every year. We like being able to see all the various animals and trees found in Pennsylvania. Also, being able to learn history of the state is fascinating too - dinosaurs found here, history of... More
