Teddy Roosevelt declared that this Italian Renaissance-style building was “the handsomest building I ever saw”. Indeed, the State Capitol, with its vaulted dome and grand staircase and the murals and painted floors inside, is thing to behold.

The Pennsylvania State Capitol Building is an absolute treasure. It is designed in the image of a European Palace, with Gold and Marble everywhere. The front steps, after entering the building, resemble those of the Paris Opera House. The legislative rooms are absolutely stunning, as...More

Visited this past weekend (Fri, 8/19). The free guided tour is educational. The building is absolutely breathtaking in the main rooms inside. We met at the grand staircase, and were shown the senate, the house, and the PA supreme court. Picture taking is allowed.

This was cool to see. The street was nice in front of it and it leads to a park on the river. So it's worth stopping here to see a number of sites in one location.

The capitol rotunda in Harrisburg is only rivaled by the nations capitol in Washington DC. If you are visiting Harrisburg, I highly recommend going to see it as well as the states museum which is just down the street.

I have seen the fountain look red, on occasion. I remember thinking that someone put too much red into the fountain works. But I am sure that it was in October, and when they had tinted the fountain pink for Breast Cancer... More
