Teddy Roosevelt declared that this Italian Renaissance-style building was “the handsomest building I ever saw”. Indeed, the State Capitol, with its vaulted dome and grand staircase and the murals and painted floors inside, is thing to behold.

We had to stop by the North Office Building anyway to get apostilles for a bunch of forms so why not tour the capitol? We arrived in the gray mist of a February morning and even then everything looked colorful and ornate. We're self-guided types so we skipped the tours (although I eaves-dropped on a group of fifth-graders in the... More

We've visited several state Capitol buildings and of the dome style capitols this is the best we've seen. The green dome is striking from a distance and you can see it from all over Harrisburg. We were happy they offered a Sunday tour. It was only 30 minutes but still informative and comprehensive. The floor tiles are wonderful as are... More

It's so beautiful inside (and outside) and it's free. I've been to a couple other famous state capitols, and this one is by far the best. The artwork inside is likewise amazing. A must see!

Free tours of this lovely building offer views of our government's inner workings and also gorgeous design and artwork. Just the rotunda has beautiful murals and sculptures and is worth a look if you can't make a tour. A security check is required to get in, so leave your pocket knives at home or in the car. Oh, and you... More

The most beautiful Capitol in the nation. This is the Palace of Art envisioned by the architect. The art and architecture make this a must see in Harrisburg. The art and architecture are splendid and unified to tell the history of Pennsylvania.

We enjoy going to state capitals when we travel to get a good overview of the state. We have been to 12 so far and this is by far the most beautiful. We continue to speak of it to others and recommend that they stop in.
