Just a short distance off the main highway a motorcycle trip along the Columbia River winding through beautiful countryside and an abundance of waterfalls to view. This is a great road to escape on!

We traveled this highway a number of times to and from hiking destinations, or waterfalls. Its beautiful. A few little towns along the way to stop and dine or just visit.

Follows the Columbia River with beautiful vistas and waterfalls tumbling down. Visit the Bonneville Dam for WPA architecture, history and views of migrating salmon in season. Don't miss the Vista House at Crown Point -- an architectural gem, which was supposed to be a pit...More

Columbia River Highway must be one of the top drives in the U.S There is much to see. There are Spectacular view points. The road can be narrow and windy in places, so it can be slow going, I highly recommend this tour.

Rent a car from downtown Portland (not the airport!!) and just drive. You'll be amazed at how beauty surrounds you and the landscape changes as you approach The Dalles. FYI! watch out for falling rocks-one hit and cracked the windshield of my rental:(

We toured on Saturday July 2nd and it should have been miserable from too much traffic, but we toured from 4:30-7:30pm and it was wonderful. Still busy but very manageable. We saw everything we wanted to see, and hiked a bit, too. Recommend going late...More

Amazing on a clear day! Just watch out for all the other folks wanting to stop for photo ops! Be sure and go both upstairs and downstairs to see the architecture. Views of the Columbia River are abundant from just about all angles.

Buying food in Portland before you get into the Gorge would be a good idea as there are not that many places on the scenic highway. I would not recommend the Tippy canoe, but check it out for yourself, overpriced and not... More
