- DoxysmileAlbany, Oregon38 contributionsWell Worth The CostAbso-f**kin-lutely the BEST family outing!! We all enjoyed Nicole’s informative and interesting presentation about Wolves! The walk around the property to see the wolves and their habitat was exciting, as we were able to get up close & observe the magnificent wolves!Thank you so much for your review. - April & PaulPhoenix, Oregon27 contributionsLovely Visiting a Wolf Shangri-LaNicola put her heart and soul into giving us the utmost wolf education she could possible pack into 2 hours. Her knowledge of the history of wolves and current statistics of their lives in Oregon, throughout the U.S and around the world was astounding. We were able to view 5 wolves, 2 up close, but always through the wire fence. This made photography difficult. The other 3 wolves were viewable from a distance. We really had hoped we could at least pet the wolves but this was not allowed. That being said, my husband and I enjoyed delving into the “Wolf World” a little deeper than we ever had before. This was our 3rd visit to a wolf sanctuary. Well done, Nicola, and all the caretakers at White Wolf Sanctuary!Thank you so much for your support!Written 26 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 January 2024
- Susan L2 contributionsWonderfulThis was very good, and I don’t do tours. Learned some new things about wolves and reconfirmed my feelings for them. Was disappointed that there were only 4 wolves when the website listed 11. The place was in a great location and very secure. I would love to go back some day.Thank you for visiting. We are in the process of obtaining more wolves so when you visit again we will have more. we are currently doing some maintenance on the habitats in order to receive themWritten 16 August 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 August 2024
- Emily V1 contributionVery educational experienceWhat a cool experience! We had alot of fun learning more about the Grey Wolfs and their habitat. We were able to see all 4 wolves that are currently living at the WWS - although it is hard to get pictures because they are behind fences and they advise you not get too close. Would highly recommend if you have children or if you are an animal lover!Thank you for visiting!Written 1 September 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 August 2024

A wonderful couple of hours learning about and observing these majestic animals. They have been so misrepresented in popular culture that it’s important to educate people about their true nature and vital role in our ecosystem. As others have said this is not a ‘zoo’ experience: it’s an opportunity to learn about wolves and see them in a caring habitat, plus of course support the great work that the sanctuary does.

Such a great experience! Our tour guide Nicola was so kind, fun, and informative! It was great to get to learn about the beautiful wolves from someone who has been volunteering there for so many years. The wolves were so trusting with her so they came up so close to the gate! We had lots of fun and we will definitely be back. What an incredible memory. Thank you so much WWS and Nicola!

The wolf sanctuary visit exceeded our expectations! Nichola was a great host and the team communicated clearly and often with logistic details. The wolves were amazing of course! Learned a ton more about them and we were treated to a howling chorus. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you again for a wonderful experience!

We participated in a nature talk and then a brief walk around to the enclosures.
The wolves were lovely and beautiful, and I learned a lot about wolf conservation. I would absolutely recommend to others. Staring into those golden eyes of these majestic creatures is something I am likely to never forget.

Wolves are great...but if you want to volunteer here, you had better not mind being insulted, taken for granted, expected to work long hours (some volunteers work 10 hours a day there) with little to no breaks. My guy just came back from there tonight after only three days of service there (mind you, he drove two hours each way to offer his services there). Lois who runs the facility treats her volunteers like crap and they just mainly deal with it because they love the wolves. From what he described, it seems she coerces volunteers to stay long hours, and if they refuse she throws a fit. He heard her insulting one of the volunteers' behind her back, and he overheard her insulting him tonight, without warrant, as she spoke to another of the volunteers...after that he just left to come back home. What's sad about situations like this is that these volunteers are donating their time, gas money, and labor and this is how they are paid.I have read up on many stories of volunteer abuse tonight, and I am so sad to say that unless Lois realizes that she needs to be kinder to the people that help her, then ultimately her wolves will suffer because she keeps driving people away who won't take her crap. Kudos to the volunteers that have stayed with her and just deal with it...Still, the situation there can be abusive--no one should have to "just deal with it"....So, go for the wolves, yes. But be wary of volunteering there...I certainly hope Lois reads this and comes to the realization that she needs to be as kind to the people who help her as she is to the wolves.

First off it was 2.5 hour drive each way to get there and for the experience to be as terrible as it was I was pretty annoyed. The atmosphere is not inviting (with the exception of Lori), within 15 minutes we were already being pitched a monthly donation program. We saw the wolves for about 45 minutes all the while herded around while our questions were answered sarcastically and with contempt. The whole tour was a joke. It felt forced and that we were intruding, would have felt better just donating the entrance fee and not wasting a whole day of our vacation. 0/10 would recommend to anyone who values their time. Oh and the kicker, we were talked to about a logging company that has been working across from them or in the area for some years now and how they dislike them for what they do. So I go to throw my bottle of water away, THEY DONT RECYCLE, what kind of environmentalists/conservationists don't recycle????
