The First Presbyterian church located in Downtown Portland is an Awesome Gothic church from 1890. It is located between 12th and 13th Avenues, and Alder and Morrison streets. The entire city block is taken up by the church, its lovely garden, and a parking garage. It was build between 1886 and 1890 in a High Victorian Gothic style. Has a 185-foot-tall spire. The First Presbyterian Church has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974. The stained glass windows were made by Portland’s Povey Brothers Art Glass Works. There are many of these found all around the church. There is a distinctive large Rose Window on the church. For some reason made me think of the round window on Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum. But much more elaborate and fascinating to gaze upon. The church bell was cast from bronze taken from civil war cannons. The bell is rung twice a day. Before the bell was installed in this church it had be rung when the civil war ended and when Abraham Lincoln died. There is a pipe organ inside the church. But it is not as old as the church is. It only dates back to 2000 AD. Just a year shy of A Space Odyssey. So HAL 9000 is not the phantom in this place of worship.

Amazing architecture inside and out. Parking next door. The woodwork is beautiful. Christmas time is the best time to see it in it's full glory. One of the oldest Churches in Portland. Many great restaurants nearby.
