Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Build when timber was king, All wood in sanctuary and an amazing stained glass window. Just takes a moment to pop in and look.

The cherrywood pews, railings and other woodwork make this church a real masterpiece among Portland churches. The acoustics are good, the musicians are good, and it is a beautiful place to worship.

As the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) begins to gather at the Oregon Convention Center, interest in visiting this amazing church to see its stained glass and decorative woodwork is peaking. It was the General Assembly back in the 1890's that caused the church to add the ornate balcony that graces the sanctuary. The acoustics are amazing. There is a place under the eastern part of the balcony where your whisper can be heard on the opposite side. But it's the organ that people come to hear...an the musicians that schedule Sunday afternoons to perform for the public. Many years ago, the church bought the lot next to it, that looks like a park on the surface. Underneath are multiple parking levels, the highest of which opens into the community room in the basement of the church. This parking lot assures visitors a place for their cars when the visit the church...Make sure to get your parking validation. Church volunteers are always happy to show off the building after the 10:30 service on Sundays.

I was visiting a friend who attends First Presbyterian. She invited me to church with her on Sunday and it was a real treat. The woodwork inside is gorgeous-- a dramatic display of Oregon's industry and resource at work. The acoustics were fantastic and the place warm and inviting. Check it out if you stumble upon it.

First Presbyterian Church of Portland's interior was built from Oregon's greatest gift: lumber. A handcrafted piece of carpenter's art, this historic building has been the center for ministry to Portland, Oregon and out into the world. It is a beautiful site for a wedding, but a visit any time is a pleasure. Even better on Sunday to experience the gathered community and the outstanding music. A look around will let you see not only a grand old church building, but a place alive with creative work and service.

Worth the walk to look at this beautiful building. It was closed when I went there, and I will make it a point to try to take a tour the next time I am in town.

You don't often think of the west coast as a place with beautiful old churches, so this is a pleasant surprise for anyone who loves great old church buildings. It's beautiful and well kept inside and out.

I had the chance to attend an event inside this church which was built in 1890. The interior is immaculate with so much wood detail. There is a fairly new pipe organ inside. The church does offer an unguided walking tour of its facility during regular business hours.

The First Presbyterian church located in Downtown Portland is an Awesome Gothic church from 1890. It is located between 12th and 13th Avenues, and Alder and Morrison streets. The entire city block is taken up by the church, its lovely garden, and a parking garage. It was build between 1886 and 1890 in a High Victorian Gothic style. Has a 185-foot-tall spire. The First Presbyterian Church has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
The stained glass windows were made by Portland’s Povey Brothers Art Glass Works. There are many of these found all around the church. There is a distinctive large Rose Window on the church. For some reason made me think of the round window on Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum. But much more elaborate and fascinating to gaze upon.
The church bell was cast from bronze taken from civil war cannons. The bell is rung twice a day. Before the bell was installed in this church it had be rung when the civil war ended and when Abraham Lincoln died.
There is a pipe organ inside the church. But it is not as old as the church is. It only dates back to 2000 AD. Just a year shy of A Space Odyssey. So HAL 9000 is not the phantom in this place of worship.

Amazing architecture inside and out. Parking next door. The woodwork is beautiful. Christmas time is the best time to see it in it's full glory. One of the oldest Churches in Portland. Many great restaurants nearby.
