This is a great escape from the city, and it's easy to get to by public transit - #19 bus to the entrance by the parking lot on Milwaukie Ave. It was beautiful, green and quiet, with fallen trees, birds, a pond and wetland (parts...More

Across the paved trail leading to the oaks amusement park lies another world. A world of herons, frogs, turtles, and wild ducks. Many trails crisscross the oaks bottom wildlife refuge but they all essentially loop a big swampy area that is traveled enough to be...More

Bring your binoculars and camera. The best time is the migration periods spring and fall but it is a wonderful exploration at anytime.

Really nice place for a stroll, especially if you're a birder. Very easy hiking. I'm not sure if the path is accessible or not--we saw parents with strollers, but I don't know how they got down there, because the entrance I came in was down...More

Nestled in the southeast Moreland-Sellwood neighborhoods of Portland, Oaks Bottom offers a variety of nature's gifts. Begin at the parking lot trailhead and make your way down the painted paved path to the hiking/running trail on the left, or continue to the tadpole ponds on...More

Stretching along the east side of Portland from Sellwood to Westmoreland is Oaks bottom wildlife refuge. The noise of the city is replaced by the sound of birds and wind in the trees. A gem for many years it is increasingly brought back to a...More
