Walk through the arboretum and you can get to The Rose Gardens and Japanese gardens both if which are very nice. I suggest highly, however, that you go on a weekend when there is bus transportation or drive.... More

Greatly enjoyed the walks through tree-thematic trails. Maple path in the fall is a burst of color! Perfect place to bring a picnic, read a book and enjoy the nature.

My image of an arboretum was something small, so we were really impressed with this beautiful forest. We totally came unprepared and without walking shoes, which is fine on the shorter walks through the arboretum, but if you are more serious about going for a walk come prepared. On a hot summer day it is also nice to be in... More

This is a perfect place to spend an hour or so on a quiet walk. It adjoins the Vietnam Memorial, which as a veteran of the war I found to be extremely well done and moving.

We love hiking here. They have wonderful paved and clearly marked trails. The maple trail was beautiful in the fall! There is a large, clean picnic area with a picnic shelter and clean bathrooms, so we sometimes pack a lunch to eat there. A well maintained park.

Hoyt Arboretum has a huge collection of trees, shrubs and other plants; all in a beautiful setting with extensive hiking trails and outstanding views of the city of Portland as well as to the north as far as Mt Rainier. Magnolias in the spring are a special treat as are the many maples and other trees with their fall color.... More

We loved our walk through Hoyt Arboretum. The park was large enough to feel off in the woods while wandering on well maintained trails, compact enough to allow us to customize the hike to fit our time constraints, and well mapped so we were not lost. It was fun to find a piece of sculpture.

You will feel like you are in a forest far from the city. Exceptional. If you go during the rainy season, be sure to touch the redwood tree trunks. They are spongy wet. If you like trees or nature, this is a must see. Not exactly a hike but a challenging walk for us older folks.
