Biggest real book store left!

Amazing place to visit. Books for all ages and genre lovers. Open late. They let you take books into the coffee shop to read just like a library.

If you only have an hour, you'll have to zip through the multiple floors and sections of Powell's, which rivals the old Strand Bookstore in NYC and Leary's in Philadelphia. It has that wonderful old-fashioned bookstore feeling, yet all the material and services are up to date. The color-coded system makes meandering easier, and the salesperson who greets you at... Holiday busy, I guess. Lots of tourists. Hoped we'd have a quick in and out to pick up an online order, but yikes. Long lines. Glad I didn't browse and have to wait in that crazy line!

This is the first time we have visited Portland and it was extremely important that we checked out Powell's. Where has this place been all of my life? Every inch is filled with books, stationary, and great gift ideas. You can also find a ton of staff recommendations which are super helpful. Can't wait to come back on our next... More

Billed as "Largest Bookstore in the World"; it is quite large. No chairs to sit & read, even for seniors like my Mom, who was with me: it is 1.6 acres/1 full city block, so it was tiring. Bring your own chair. Lines were long. Pretty cool historic place though. We enjoyed the rare books section, children's, & employees choice/awards... More

I never miss Powell's when I go to Potland. You can spend a day browsing the book shelves in this multilevel color coded store. I always find a surprise. This trip...a golf book that my husband lost 40 years ago...found it!! You'll love it!!

What a great bookstore. Of course, calling it a bookstore doesn't do it any justice. This place is awesome. A massive, multi-floor store, brimming with every kind of book you could possibly be looking for. The store includes sections that are logically setup and easy to navigate. Massive collections of used and new books. If it's a book, they have... More
