Our goal was to see wildflowers on our trip to Hood River. There were 4 varieties blooming along the Rowena Crest trail, a very easy walk along a dirt path. On the day we visited the wind was blowing very hard so it was difficult...More

We spent the morning at the Nature Preserve hiking. First hike was the McCall Trail which was about three miles total - in and out path. It traveled up a large hill with some elevation gain and provided spectacular views the whole way up. After...More

I just drove here this week. All the spring wildflowers are in bloom and the meadows are just brilliant with color. You can get here easily there is a lot of parking and you can just wander around and look at the Columbia River.

We had 3 to 4 inches of snow so went snowshoeing on this beautiful trail. There were cross-country skiers and at the entrance were restrooms and drinking fountain.

Always a great walk, but particularly during wildflower season (April to June most years). On clear days (many are here) there are good views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams. Well worth the time.

Well worth the climb to the top! You get a great sense of the vastness and terrain of the Gorge from here. Quiet. Awe.

The spring wildflower displays draw thousands of hikers each year. But this Rowena Plateau offers so much more than a hiking area. This basalt plateau projects right into the path of the mighty Columbia River and was a major buttress against the fury of over...More

Only the plateau trail was open at the time we visited. I was unprepared for the amount of wind we encountered, but the view was worth it! This is a great place for views of the Columbia River with wild flowers in the foreground.

If you wish to experience Oregon's wildflowers in spring, head for the Tom McCall Nature Preserve in Mosier. It's easy access by car, even if you are not a hiker or good walker. Best time to go is mid- to late April

not at Tom McCall. It's completely open, no cover, and often windy. Check out Mayer or MDMA loose State Parks along the river. No covered pavilions or grills that I know of, but good tree cover and generally not that windy.
