We took multiple hikes in the Mount Hood area. My wife is recovering from a severe broken leg, so our hikes were more on the easy side. Be aware a $5 pass is required for parking in the Mount Hood hiking area. We did 2...More

We went to the beautiful Timberline Lodge and enjoyed the scenery and a buffet lunch in the lodge. The lunch was delicious and the WPA era lodge was beautiful.

Drove up there on a day when some of forest fire smoke was lessened. On a clear day, the mountain was visible from Portland. We totally enjoyed the views, and Hood is stunning. Looked for some interpretive signs to tell us names of other visible...More

We drove up to the hotel at the top of the mountain. It's a bit of a pain to make that drive. Views along the way are decent, but when you get to the top you're above the treeline, so you're basically staring up at...More

If you want snow, that's iffy, it might snow at the beginning of December or in November. I doubt the fall will be frozen then.

Hey all Looking for help on what to see: 6 day trip flying into Portland renting a car flying out of Seattle. First time to Port, have been to Seattle's downtown, but nothing else. Originally had set for 3days in Mt. Hood/Portland area to explore downtown & some hiking around Mt. Hood/Columbia River Gorge exploring Then 3 days either around Port Angeles to see visit Olympic National Park sites, or using those same days and staying close to Rainer National Park to do some hiking/see Mt. Saint Helens. Ideally since we are for sure spending time in Portland Area & Mt. Hood bc we have never been to the area. I was thinking it would be great to get up to the Olympic site where there is different vegetation, beaches, etc. but after reading some comments, it seems that Rainer & Mt. Saint Helens are not to be missed. We could def hit either Rainer or Mt. SH for a 4hour stint on the day we drive up to Olympic area, but probably not both... My question is for people who have been to both, if you had to cut out something what would you cut out? Is 3days/3days too much at either? If so, should we try 2/2/2 or a 2/1/3 if you think all of the stops listed are obtainable. Thanks so much for your help.

I think you are cramming way too much into a very short period of time. Figure out what is most important to you and focus your time there.
