Traveling Oregon's coast requires time and patience. In the Coos Bay area one great outing includes Shore Acres, Simpson Reef, and Cape Argo. Viability of wildlife may depend upon a good set of binoculars. in season there are distant sightings of whales. Seak, birds, and sea lions are numerous and close to shore. The overlooks offer a great setting for... More

We were astounded at the number of seals and sea lions perched among the rocks and swimming in the ocean at this location. It was a symphony of sound with sea lion barks and crashing waves.

we stopped by for an hour or so, the park is nice, not the best in the area but it is worth a quick stop.

We visited Cape Arago in the afternoon to watch the winter waves crash against the rocks below the cliffs. Although we have been to Cape Arago a number of times during the summer, this is the first winter "storm watch" trip we've made (in combination with the Christmas lights display at Shore Acres State Park). While there was a fair... More

This is a stunning stretch of Oregon coast. Beautiful cliffs and rock formations to admire. On a high surf day it is spectacular, with waves crashing into the cliffs and soaring high into the sky. We've been here countless times and never tire of walking the paths. Excellent viewing point for seals and sea lions a bit further down the... More

Every time we visit our family in Charleston, OR we always hike the trails along the coast in this state park. This trip the waves were great and splashed way up to the top of the cliffs. We always see sea lions, whales, and the scenery is spectacular, a must see place to visit.

OMG what a view!! Crashing waves coming ashore during a high surf warning, soooo worth seeing! We drove a couple hours just to see it and it was enormous. These pictures were taken a little further north at Shore Acres State Park. I have never seen waves crash to several hundreds of feet high at the Oregon coast, but still... More

Love this place. Have enjoyed camping at Sunset Bay and falling asleep to the sound of sea lions.but a bit to blustery to hear them this trip, though saw plenty. Epic storms rolled in Thanksgiving week and watched waves over 100ft crash onto the rocks. Really nice hiking/walking, not strenuous but be sure to pack rain gear no matter when... More

We took the short drive from Shore Acres Park to this point. The views a great. This would make a great place to have a picnic if the wind takes a break.

Went here when camping in the area. The views of seals in the bay from here are very good. Getting there on a windy day like when we visited was a bit of a challenge but was worth it, great views.
