Hiking along the Metolius River after a light snowfall is magical. There is a nice out and back four mile walk starting at the Camp Sherman general store. Well marked paths. Great views of the forest and Black Butte.

The river is just gorgeous! The people are friendly as can be! So relaxing and enjoyable. I had three girl friends with me and they fell in love with Camp Sherman and the Metolius River too!

This water is too cold for swimming but is fabulous for viewing and fly fishing. It is mostly shallow which gives fly fisherman easy access. It changes along it's course with lots of ins and outs. There are numerous footbridges around too.

We hiked from the Canyon campground to the fish hatchery. It's an easy 5-mile round trip along a lovely river.

There is a short hike down to where the river emerges from a spring. I guess it is pretty country, but there really isn't much to see. The main attraction here is the friendly ground squirrels.
