Stopped here shortly after crossing into Oregon on our 101 road trip and it’s the perfect welcome to the Oregon coast. You can park for free at the parking lot near the water treatment plant and head down to paved trail to the rock peninsula. The views all the way out are unparalleled. Sit and watch the waves crash into the massive rock formations or walk all the way out to the giant rock thing and hop around and explore the different viewpoints. Once out there, a sign says something about the trail not being maintained and it being dangerous to continue but it is pretty safe and comfortable and mostly paved. You can climb out far on the descending rocks as far as you want and most of the time it’s just a few feet down to the next group of rocks so even if you did fall you’re not going to tumble into the sea most likely. Having been in California for a few days before arriving here on found this to a welcome change going from the redwood coast to the beautiful famous rock formations that Oregon is known for and this place is the perfect showcase of the rugged Oregon coast. It’s right in the heart of Brookings too. My girlfriend quickly pulled out her phone as we entered the city limits and we were there parked within 5 minutes having never even heard of the place. Would definitely recommend for anyone traveling through the area.

This is a paved walk with some steep hills up and down. So worth the view if you can navigate this. Our daughter used her hiking poles. There is a great bench for contemplation but we kindly did not interrupt the occupiers for our turn. You can also walk down to the beach on a gravel path but need to cross some big logs.

Chetco Point park is well off the beaten path and is a lovely natural area with great views. Since it's known only to locals (until now!), we found it practically deserted on a rare warm sunny winter day.

It's really odd to get to it, however. Take Wharf Street and go toward the sewer plant. Yes, you read that correctly. The parking lot is actually part of the sewer plant, and you follow a paved path right next to it. It smells okay, by the way ;-)

Once you are past the sewer plant, you walk out onto Chetco Point - a rugged chunk of land that juts out into the ocean. The views are amazing north, south and west. On clear day, you can see Point St George lighthouse several miles out to sea.

You can take the trail down to the beach as we did, and look for shells and other interesting stuff. There is also a trail that goes up the bluff at the end of the point. Both trails are short and easy. Back toward the sewer plant are several picnic tables in a large grassy area with a great view.

This is a nice place to relax, enjoy terrific views and a few friendly local folks.

The walk from the parking lot to the point, is well worth the long walk, even when you have to walk by the sewage treatment plant (OMG). When you finally reach the point, there are forever views. I imagine that when the whales are heading south, or north, this must be a tremendous vantage point. This is a great place to watch the sunset. The scene of the sun setting, and couples in amorous embrace, in love with the scenery, and each other, is beautiful and moving. Being in love is the greatest gift.

Not much to it but a nice short walk out to the point where you have great views of Brookings. You have to pass the sewage plant to get out to the point. Then it's a short uphill hike up to the point.

My husband and I were camping at Harris Beach State Park which is fabulous. We rode our bikes into Brookings and were rather disappointed in the town as it had a huge wood mill that emitted strange smells and not much else we wanted to stop at except a Fred Meyers for a quick walk through. We did find the path to this park and we didn't even know whether to take it or not as you had to ride or walk through a smelly sewage treatment plant - built right on the beautiful cliff overlooking the sea. What a waste of a view. And a waste of precious space for the city. But we did go and looked at the view. Ok, so the view was good, but no better than hundreds of other places up and down the coast without the smelly stink. So, skip this and just go up the street to Harris Beach State Park or on up the coast to some of the little villages with not only great views but also many fresh fish dives all along the way. When you ride bikes or walk through the the front and back streets of a town you really find its essence. Going behind a sewage treatment plant to get a view of the coast just doesn't do it for me. Also, no one else was there the whole time we were there.

This is a very small picnic area with a scenic view of the coastline below. There is a path down to the beach, but ATTEND YOUR CHILDREN because there is a very hazardous side trail that curious children are likely to want to explore--that part is marked as such. I would recommend the Lone Ranch Beach 4 miles north of Harris Beach Park as a much nicer park for families with children--tide pools, big beach, etc.

You have to walk by the sewage treatment plant on the way out to the point. There is also a pulp or paper mill close by. When we went, it was very stinky throughout the park. Harris beach is a bit prettier and didn't stink.

Once you get past the smell of the waste treatment plant where you have to park, the walk is exciting and the views are beautiful especially out to the point.

I passed this place up the first time I drove by, following the signs to the park. Typical of Brookings to locate an ugly water treatment plant between the parking lot and the park, so you have no idea what is there. It looks SO unappealing. But, one day, I decided to see what is there. There is a walkway around the side of the water treatment plant and on the other side is a beautiful ocean view, picnic tables, a path that leads down the ocean and a small beach, and views up and down the coast. A lovely, lovely place. Too bad Brookings has ruined so much of their coast access with the ugly plywood manufacturing plant and water treatment plant. But dig past that and there are some wonderful places to see!
