Crissey Field State Park is a great place to stop in and stretch your legs after a long drive. There are steps up to the building and clean bathrooms and hospitable hosts that can lead you to info re: Brookings. It is open daily.

Less than a mile into Oregon on the 101 sits this mod looking welcome center. Who ever had the contract to do the steps, ramps and concrete must have done very well for themselves! It is the best stocked welcome center we have ever seen....More

Impeccable visitors center, ample parking, restroom facilities and after beach walk foot showers. The ocean and beautiful beach lay just behind, or you can go to the right and take a walk through the woods ending up on the estuary. We live here and Crissey...More

Nice place for a stop along the hiway. It's got a beautiful visitors center with the beach and ocean right behind it. You can take a walk along the beach or the river

You can probably find boat rentals for the Chetco River in Brookings; also *maybe* for the Smith River just across the CA border. Try a general Google search. I do not know of any boat rentals for the Winchuck.
