This town is not a destination, no specific attraction or renowned history, it is just a beautiful town with some restaurants (good restaurants) and few variety of shops.
It is clean, new, modern looking, and safe. That area of the downtown is a good place to stay for a night or two, especially along the way on a driving road trip.
All the people are nice and friendly. They are happy…. It is a happy town.
Four stars.

the old mill district is right on the Deschutes river and restaurants have seating along the river. The river trail runs from the district for a pleasant stroll. There is a bridge across the rive leading from the Hampton Inn to the Old Mill District.
The area is kept well, pleasant to walk around in, very inviting. REI is in the building with the three distinctive smokestacks.
Very pleasant retail/restaurant area.

I’m from Canada and regularly visit Bend. One of my favourite places to stop by is the Old Mill District. Wonderful restaurants, views and a variety of stores for all ages. My favourite was White House Black Market which I was so disappointed to learn that their lease had not been renewed by Old Mill as there were plans to open another store for young girls. This really leaves nothing chic for women 30 and up. I really hope management rethinks this decision. White House Black Market is a very unique and upscale boutique meeting the needs of many women.

Shopping District- Anywhere USA. Same chain stores you can find in a shopping district anywhere. It is Nothing special and certainly not worth going out of your way for. the only real positive - parking is easy

We spent one night in Bend at the Hilton Garden Inn right in the middle of the Old Mill area. It was excellent to be able to walk a short path to the shopping area and wander around. The REI store is excellent if you have any interest. We watched paddleboarders, kayaks, and tubers on the river from the bridge. It was a nice evening (if i ignore the smoke from wildfires, which is not the Old Mill's fault, obviously).

If you are interested in doing some shopping or eating at a variety of restaurants that are a bit more expensive than they should be simply because of the location than this is for you. I ate at 2 places in the area and they were fine but was not looking to do shopping so there isn't much more here. It's neat to see the old buildings so perhaps a drive through and a meal is enough.

The Old Mill District features mostly commonly found chain stores like REI and Gap. I didn't really find the shopping or dining options all that interesting but the walk along the Deschutes River to get to the old mill area from Drake Park was really lovely. There are descriptive plaques with information about the Old Mill 's history that are worth a read and the natural habitat landscaping was wonderful to admire. Also fun to watch the tubers and "surfers" out on the river as you bike or walk along. The bike path ends a little past the Old Mill District but where it ends a hiking trail along the Deschutes River begins. Only got to explore this a little bit but it was lovely.

The riverside is nice. Parking area is a bit iffy. There is no security to speak of.so, be careful when you park here.

Lots of nice shops and restaurants. Seemed to have plenty of parking. Great location right on the river. We had an excellent meal at Gregs grill.

Tudy - it truly depends on your palate and mood. They have everything from Red Robin, Anthony's Seafood, Hola, Flatbread Pizzeria, Greg's Grill, Pastini, Cafe Yumm, Mio Sushi, Ben and Jerry's, Naked Winery and more. If your looking to eat on the River your best choices are Greg's, Anthony's, Pastini, Red Robin or Va Piano Winery. The food at Hola is outstanding. Pastini has beautiful Italian dishes and special half priced bottles of wine on certain nights.
