- Terrie C3 contributionsDeschutes Brewery TourThis was an amazing educational and historical story on making beer and the beginnings of Bend being Beer Capital of the USA. Kaden our guide was brilliant and shared the story of making beer and the history of the Deschutes Brewery incredibly interesting. Thank you from our UK family for a wonderful tour and afternoon.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 7 December 2023
- Maya5 contributionsFirst time to Deschutes Brewery 🍺During my spring break trip to Bend Oregon with my friends, we visited the Deschutes Brewery. At the Brewery, we took a tour and learned about the history of Deschutes beer. It was very fascinating and a cool experience. I knew a little bit about how beer is made before going on the tour, but learning more about the process has definitely helped me get a better understanding of beer and what beers are good and which to stay away from. If you do choose to go on a tour and are 21+ you get to try one of the beer’s for free and samples throughout the tour. If you’re looking for some history fun in Bend, like beer, and are traveling this would be a fun experience!Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 29 March 2024

The tour included a lot of information about brewing but not so much that it was overwhelming. We received a can of beer (from several options) to sip while walking through the tour and a glass of our choice at the end. We learned about the ingredients and how they’re combined differently to make the different kinds of beer from stout to ales. Our guide, Curtis, clearly enjoyed giving the tour and knew a lot about the operation. Excellent tour!

We stopped in Bend during a recent cross country trip specifically to visit this brewery and we were not disappointed. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by people who were genuinely happy we were there. Each employee we chatted with were engaging and very knowledgable about their beer. The tour was given by a very enthusiastic Kim who not only is funny but truly loves what she does! Each question was answered and each step of the process was elaborated on. The tour itself was very informative and the 4 samples at the end is a nice way to end it. I would highly suggest a tour if in the area. Tours are free, can be booked in advance, and provide your choice of 4 5oz beer samples. They have over 15 to chose from so it makes the selection difficult but gives you a great opportunity to try new beers to see what you may want to order or purchase in the future.

Kim was a fabulous tour guide for our family of 8!! She was super knowledgable and so much fun! A great tour. Make a reservation if you can. The beers are tasty and what a nice facility. They have amazing ginger ale and root beer for the non-imbibers in the group. I would make sure to keep this in your plans.

Made a reservation online for a Sunday afternoon tour. Arrived about 10 minutes early and we were checked in and given a card for 4 samples. They could be used before the tour or after. Tried a couple of samples and then our tour was called. Jeff our guide, talked very fast and I found it hard to follow at times, but he was very informative and knowledgeable about the Deschutes Brewery products. Since we were there on a weekend, the bottling line was not operating. Tour lasted about 45 minutes and was well worth the time if you are in the Bend area. The Deschutes Brewery is now the 7th largest Craft beer brewery in the US.

Good history about the brewery, interesting info about employee perks (all beer related), terrific tour guide, and (of course) samples. I like that you preschedule on their website to ensure a spot on the tour.

Deschutes represents what craft brewing is all about: commitment to quality; desire to experiment with their brews; celebration of their crew and community.
It's a good tour - you see a lot of the brewery, get a lot of information. Our tour guide (Jason) was knowledgeable, and in the one or two instances where he didn't know an answer, he got the information at the end of the tour.
The taproom is a great place to try many of their different beers and ales.
And don't miss their restaurant downtown - good food and more beer!
Bend is a beer-lovers paradise!

Thanks for the great review! We're so happy you joined us & enjoyed your experience. Jason is definitely a Rockstar guide & we'll be sure to buy him a beer;-)
We hope you'll join us in our tasting room and at our pub again the next time you're in the area, and thanks for drinking Deschutes! Cheers,

Our ambassador Jeff was outstanding. Gave us lots of info about beer and Deschutes history. You don't get free samples, in fact the tour costs $5. But you do get a can of beer to drink during or after the tour. Definitely one of the better brewery tours we've been on.

I didn't think that kids would be allowed to tour the facility but I was wrong. For the most part, it was the kids who enjoyed seeing the live version of "How It's Made" that we love to watch on TV. The bubbly and friendly tour guide made us smell and taste hops, eat different variety of barley and educated us about the key ingredients of beer making. They showed us how the beer bottles get filled, capped and labeled. Afterwhich is the free tasting and I now know how to pick beers to drink next time. I bought the Black Butte Porter. I turned around and saw my kids having a free sample too! I said, what??
Don't worry, mom. It's free root beer. The tour guide gave it to us! :)

Hey there, restlessmovement--thanks for the question. Our Tasting Room has a dog-friendly lobby (with complimentary treats and belly rubs), and our Public House at 1044 NW Bond Street has a dog-friendly patio where you can have lunch.
